Ava brought Eric over more and more often after his first visit to our house.
He practically lived with us now and they spend most of their time in the living room watching movies, or doing their homework in Ava's room.I joined them sometimes on our living room couch and Eric even helped me with my biology homework once, but I wouldn't really consider us friends.
I did like him though and I could tell that our parents were more than satisfied with my twin sisters relationship.
The only weird thing about him was that he constantly threw glances my way when my sister wasn't watching. It made me scowl sometimes. I couldn't not assume that it had something to do with my sexuality. I did mention it to my sister once, but she assured me that Eric was as open minded and friendly as the rest of our family so I just shrugged it off after a while.
Today was another one of those lazy days where Ava, Eric and I just watched random shows that were on TV.
It was a Friday afternoon as well, so we were allowed to be lazy.
Ava and Eric were cuddling on the couch next to me, while I was on my phone, barely paying attention to the TV at all.
They didn't seem to into it either and seemed more occupied with the other person. I tried to swallow my envy.
Ava and I were almost 18 and while she was living her dream, cuddling with a handsome basketball player, I was sitting on the other side of the couch, scrolling through my social media sites.
I haven't even kissed anyone yet and I was almost convinced that I would die a virgin.
"I'm going to make us some popcorn." Ava's sudden announcement made me tear my eyes off of my screen and give her a curt nod.
She stood up from the couch and gave Eric a quick peck on the lips before disappearing into the kitchen.
I never felt awkward being with Eric alone in a room. But today was kinda different.
He was staring again.
"Stop that." The harshness of my voice made him jump a bit but he didn't stop staring at me. In fact, he was staring even more now, waiting for me to talk again.
I groaned "You keep staring at me and glancing my way, and I know I'm hot and all, but you're my sisters boyfriend, so please stop whatever you're doing." Blurting that suddenly made me aware of the other possibility his staring might imply. Oh god, please don't tell me he actually likes me?
That would be a first. No one ever confessed to me before. And especially no one who was as hot as Eric is.
Why am I even thinking about this? He's my sister's boyfriend and obviously straight.
I was brought back from my admittedly embarrassing trail of thought when Eric starting laughing.
I was the one staring now.
I realized that I never heard him laugh before.
Also, what was so fucking funny??
"What?!" I demanded, trying to hide my slight fear. I had no idea where this was going.
"I'm sorry." He apologized between breathless laughter.
His chuckling died down and he rubbed his hands together, leaning back into the couch.
"Don't worry Daniel, me staring doesn't really have any meaning to it. I guess I'm just feeling a bit awkward, being in the same room with my girlfriend and her brother." He scratched the back of his head and looked me up and down.
I wanted to die. This was so awkward. I was making up all kinds of stories in my head, ranging from internalized homophobia to possible infatuation but never once did I think about him just being incredibly awkward.
He just kinda looked like the overly confident type.
His hand ran through his hair now. "That might not be entirely true though."
I snapped my head in his direction, raising one of my eyebrows at him.
"You'll find out soon enough." He gave me a small smile and then turned to my sister who was coming back to the living room with a giant bowl of popcorn in her hands. She settled back down next to him and he kissed her head, grabbing a handful of popcorn before eating it one by one out of his hand.
"Oh! Dan." Ava looked like she suddenly remembered something.
"I wanted to ask, do you want to spend lunch with us on Monday?""Uhh, sure." I slightly hesitated when giving my answer but figured that it wouldn't harm anybody.
I thought figuring out I like dudes was confusing but this was starting to get weirder and weirder as time went by.
Ava gave Eric a thumbs up, as if I wasn't in the room and as if Eric didn't just hear my answer himself.
I turned back to my phone, declining when my sister asked if I wanted some popcorn. I knew she liked salty popcorn and I wasn't about that life.
I sighed and wondered if I would ever find out what the deal with Eric and his staring was.
