Chapter 9
Determination and bravery was not enough. Robert and Yoshi stomped past the monkey bars and made it almost to swing set before being ambushed. Arm to arm, they were snatched. More dragged than pulled, they were brought to the Teeter-totters.
“I want that one first.” He spat through his teeth before pointing at Yoshi. The two hoisted him onto the other end of the teeter-totter and watched with delight as he was raised high into the air. Yoshi looked down to the ground, feelings of helplessness washed over him as he realized there was no escaping his wrath.
“You dirty little worm, how dare you think you could get away with flicking me. You are lucky I don’t hold you down and let my boys thump your head for a bit.”
Yoshi felt the mask of bravery being lifted from his face. Tears threatened to break free and flow to the earth below.
“I want you to apologize to me and my boys. Better yet, I want you to get on your hands and knees and crawl to them. I want you to beg for their forgiveness like the worm you are.”
Brad gave a menacing snarl and watched Yoshi, determined to break his spirit before torturing him. Yoshi couldn’t hold back any more, big fat tears pitter-pattered down his face and he continued to stare at the ground. A slight whisper came from deep within.
“I-I-I’m sorry”
Brad cupped his ear, making a big show of how quiet Yoshi was.
“What was that worm? I couldn’t hear you.” He mocked.
With a little more energy to his voice, Yoshi started again. Robert wiggled and strained against his captures, hoping to break free and save his pal. The large children simply tighten their grip and used their superior strength to subdue him.
“I-I I’M SORRY…”
“NO YOSHI DON’T DO IT!”
Robert stomped his boot down hard and flung an elbow. A scruffy oomph sound was made audible as the large captors loosened their grip. Robert ran to the teeter-totter and pulled down with all his body weight, lifting Brad high in the air. Behind him the frustrated grumble and torturous manhandling prevented him for going any further. Being dragged through the dirt and roughly held in place, he thrashed his body to and fro, trying to free himself once again. The larger children clung to him knowing not to make the same mistake twice.
“HE IS NOT SORRY, I’M NOT SORRY, NOONE IS SORRY!”
Brad looked around the playground, then back at Robert with menacing grin.
“Oh but he is sorry, look at him, he’s sorry and scared. So are all the other children and soon you will be sorry too.”
Brad stretched out his arm and flicked Yoshi in the nose. With a suppressed gurgle, Yoshi stared at the ground.
“SAY IT WORM!”
“I-I’M…”
“NO YOSHI DON’T SAY IT! LALALALA. I’M A LITTLE TEA POT SHORT AND STOUT…”
Robert tried with all his might to help Yoshi out of this mess with his pride still intact. It seemed like they were about to lose, about to fall victim once more to a real life teeter-totter gang.
“Shut him up. Please shut him up. Take him to the merry-go-round.”
With that command, Robert was dragged, kicking and screaming to the center of the vile wheel. He knew what was in store for him, but refused to succumb to torture without a fight.
