“The school camp is on 14th February”, Ms. Lockwood, my class teacher announced. “It’s gonna be another boring site”, I muttered under my breath. “Did you say something, Mark?” She asked with her green eyes trained at me. “No.. Nothing ma’am”, I stammered.

Ms. Lockwood was a boring teacher. She possessed ears of a rabbit or something. Even the slightest of a whisper can make her nose ‘twitch’ in suspicion. That’s why we loved to call her “Ms. Bunny”. Of course, we didn’t call her by that name when she’s around.

She handed small leaflets to us. It was regarding all the details of the camp. “Give this to your parents”, she announced on top of her voice. “We aren’t children anymore! Why can’t she understand that?” William grumbled. I motioned him to be silent.

“I heard that!” Ms. Bunny exclaimed.

William froze. She didn’t say anything. But he knew messing up her would be his deadliest mistake. Ms. Bunny would complain his parents and the rest will be decided by his parents. And his parents would ground him for a month or two.

William was my best friend. In other words, my only friend. The periods passed in a blur. We both raced to home. As always, William trailed behind me by a mile. Kidding.

“So you are going to Redwood Pine forest?” Mom asked, with her eyes glued to the leaflet.

“What? Redwood Pine forest?” I asked. I didn’t read the details when it was handed to me. I was hearing that name for the first time.

Mom nodded. “On a Valentine’s day!” Dad chimed in. Dad loved to interrupt in discussions. Even mom doesn’t know why he does that.

Two days were left for the camp. I had to start packing. Luckily, the day before the camp was declared as an holiday by the school. I was in a complete confusion. Every year, our school organized a trip to some ‘renowned’ amusement park.

Time passed quicker than I expected. Mom had already organized all the things needed for the camp. I was busy packing with all the crazy stuff I wanted. I secretly hid my mobile in a small compartment. I can’t live without it. “Mobiles not allowed”, the warning from the leaflet buzzed in my ears for a while. I ignored.

     “Boowwwww!”

I sprang on my feet. I leapt backwards to see William giggling.

“You! Can’t you see I’m busy here?” I scolded. No use. He loves to scare people despite being a scaredy cat himself. He tried to control himself, but to no avail. Just as usual. And what’s weird is the fact that mom supports him and his pranks. Don’t ask.

He left shortly. We both discussed about the camp for a while. He was about to bring some comics. Yes, we love comics.
