Chapter 1.

My eyes were wide awake before I had time to proses what had startled me from sleep, back to life I now have. I saw the flashes of daylight hit the paint chipped wall, heard the sounds of the train rattle along the crooked rails, saw the vibrations shake the glass of luke-warm water and new I had to get up to my crappy life with my crappy job with it's crappy pay. slowly got out of my bed and, with an unnecessary amount of groaning from the floor boards, went to the kitchen made myself toast, (which I don't even like), brushed my teeth and got dressed. I begrudgingly grabbed my bag and keys from the counter and left for my waitressing job at the clover (the café/bar in which I work). As I walked down the street I walked as if on autopilot. I walked until someone got in my way.

" Hey love, where ya off to?". It was some gangster wannabes in my way. Not a good move.

" Move out my way... and don't call me love". At the last part I looked the would be leader in the eye.

"Ooh, a feisty one", he came right up to my face at this, "I like that."

He reached out to grab my waist at this, even worse move. At this I moved to the left and grabbed him by the wrist swung it over my head and spun around so his arm was in a half nelson.

" Leave before you and your lackeys end up worse than you thought you would be."

I pushed him forward, into his friends and turned to leave. But he came at me from behind my back swinging a lead pipe like a baseball bat. I side stepped to the left and kneed hi in the chin. I thought that by now, as their leader groaned on the ground, that his wannabe friends might have come to his aid but as I turned around I found most of them kneeling on the floor coughing and spluttering or running off. I obviously didn't do that so then, who did. I got my answer as I looked to my right. Holding one of the gangsters by the hair was a guy. A random guy who had come to my help (even though I didn't need it). He hit the guy he was holding and turned to me. It was then that I recognised him. He used to be in my physics class in high school, right after the accident, while I was living with my aunt in upper Los Angeles. Kieran something, or was it Calum, I couldn't remember at that moment but I was snapped back to reality when he came over to me.

"Hey, you all right?" He asked questioningly.

"Yeah, I think- who are you?" I asked, dropping all pretences.

"Oh, I'm Kyle, and you?"

"I thought you already new considering you just saved my skin, people don't just take on a gang of losers for no reason. I mean maybe if they were little old ladies not a teenage girl, well not around here anyway". I new I was starting to babble which was very unlike me.

"There was a reason." He answered with a smile of pearly white teeth (and I swear his grass green eyes shone a little brighter)

"Well thanks, I guess", I checked my watch. "Dammit, I'm late, see you". I left in a hurry and I still didn't get there on time.

"Late again Sera." Where the first words I heard when I came through the back door and grabbed my apron.

"I'm sorry Mr Mackenzie, I was almost mugged on my way here."

"Well I almost broke my ankle this morning and that didn't stop me now, did it?"

"No... sir." I replied and rolled my eyes toward my friend Autumn.

I met her halfway to the bar, she had a massive grin on her face, which was unnerving.

"There's a really cute guy sitting at the bar, all by his lonesome. It was really strange, as soon as he sat down at the bar all the other clients just left or went to sit somewhere else." she said getting higher and higher pitched until she became ultra sonic.
