The End of Something

As I lay here in the darkness everything came rushing back, one memory replaying over and over non-stop. I remembered it clearly since I was the one that caused it. That night my parents were having dinner at a nice restaurant as it had been a long time since they had last done that. My brother, Eduardo, had stayed behind babysitting me, I was only 11 at the time. I remember being in the living room drawing something for when my parents returned and my brother coming in crying. At the time I didn't know why he was crying, although now i do. I looked up for a second noticing that he had a rope in his hand and kept repeating sorry over and over again.
"Im so sorry Leila, I know I made a promise" he whispered with tears streaming down his face.

"You've made a lot of promises" I replied without looking  up from what i was drawing. In the short time that I wasn't looking my brother had shallowly cut his veins. When I looked up again he was on a chair tying the rope onto his exercise bar at the very top of the door the blood coursing down his arms. The last words Eduardo said to me were sorry and i love you as he made eye contact and kicked away the chair. I was shocked and just stared at his lifeless body swaying in front of me the blood pooling onto the floor.

"Eduardo!" I cried hysterically once I realized what he had done. I pushed the chair back and cut the rope with the same knife he had used to slice his veins. He dropped to the floor with a loud thud splattering the pool of blood.

"You promised you would never leave me! You said you would protect me!!" I wailed hugging and shaking him in hopes that it wasn't real. My parents came home to a wailing child and a dead son. They saw me covered in blood and thought that I had killed him but when they saw the rope around his neck the realization that I had done nothing broke them completely.

"My son! Oh my son!! Why didn't you stop him you wretched girl, why?!?!!" My mom angrily shouted at me while cradling Eduardo even though she was a tiny thing compared to him.

"I didn't know, I tried but i didn't know" I cried but of course my mom didn't believe me, she believed that it was my fault. Even though Eduardo was adopted he had made our lives complete the perfect son and my protector from the people who tried to hurt me, including my parents.

"Oh Eduardo," I whispered, "I need you....you broke your promise..." but only the darkness of my room heard those words. To my family I never had a brother, they don't remember him. If someone were to ever mention him, no one would know who they were talking about. Not even my sister Marie, who was with my grandma in Mexico that summer, really remembers him. What I didn't realize at the age of 11 was that his death would signify the end of a great life.

Shall i continue? What will happen next? What other secrets are there?
