Title of Today’s Short Story: “Wrong Assumption.”

The day of my birthday I woke up really lazy, I didn’t want to get out of bed but I had to due to the fact that I was hungry. So I went downstairs to get a cup of coffee and made my way back to my room because neither my children nor wife remembered it was my birthday. I got dressed and walked to work which was just a few blocks away. As I made my way into my office no one said a single word, and by a single word I mean “Happy Birthday” which disappointed me. Then my co-worker Ashley walked in and said “Happy Birthday! It’s such a wonderful day! Why don’t we go out for lunch?” “Sure Ashley! And thank you” I responded to the question that made me the happiest knowing that at least someone remembered it was my birthday. We finished with our lunch and Ashley said “you know it’s such a beautiful day, do we have to go back to work?” “I suppose not” I responded. “What do you have in mind?” I asked politely. “Let’s go to my apartment for a while.” We went to her home which was just a block away and when she opened the door she told me to wait, that she had to go to her bedroom. In a few minutes she came back with a cake and was followed by my wife, coworkers, children etc.                    And I just sat there on the couch…
