The door busts open. Jake extends his hand to Ash. An alarm goes off.

It happens so fast. But Jake tugs us as fast as he can go, right out of the building where other Distinctives stand. At first I think it's a fire alarm. But we're all dead, anyways. So why worry about dying again? The same thought I had before jumping off of the roof.

When we get outside, Jake scrunches us into a small unorganized line. I push my way to the front and interrupt his walkie-talkie chat. "Why are we out here?" I ask, and he grins.

"Look who's curious," he taunts, and other Distinctives laugh. "Another student thought your idiotic jump was inspirational so they tried it themselves."

It doesn't make sense. Why would be out here, then?

"They died," Jake confirms at my confused look. My heart sinks.

"Why did they die?" I ask, unable to stop my curiosity.

"Because they fell...." He says, as if it's obvious.

"But I didn't die," I say, and then I think, Well, duh, of course I didn't.

"Exactly," Jake says, and then it's his turn to look curious. "What's your secret?"

I frown. I know what this means. First, I'm never going to get out of "Special" Training. And second, my actions.... killed someone.

--

Surprisingly, after Jake and Ash finish arguing quietly, Jake informs me that the Special Training Group says I have graduated and that I will not be needed anymore. He shows me my dormitory which I luckily share with Yvette, Jamie, and Taylor. There are 2 sets of bunk beds, one set against each wall. Yvette and Jamie share a set, and Taylor sleeps on the top bunk on the other set. I set out a pillow on the bottom bed. I will sleep across from Yvette.

In the backpack that the manager of the dormitories gave out there is many things. But when I opened it, the first thing I spotted was surprisingly the smallest thing; a bright orange watch with green and yellow polka dots. I'm instructed to put it on. After adjusting it, I saw a purple sleeping bag. Then a gray canteen with no water in it. A pillow. A sheet. And a small container made of plastic.

Now, I hide my backpack under my bed, concealing it beneath the sheet. It looks like everyone got the same thing because Yvette is wearing the same thing on her wrist. She's sleeping, and Jamie is, too. I assume Taylor is, because I hear nothing from above me. I crawl onto the soft mattress. But I cannot fall asleep. Not when I know that my actions killed someone. I crawl back out of the lower bunk and slide on my shoes. I open the door carefully and hop into the elevator. I press the button labeled 100, but the elevator stops at level 79. Then I remember Jakes voice informing us that our dormitories were 79 and under.

The tour must be level 80 and up. I walk to the window at level 79. It's an abandoned level. No one's here. The window is made of glass, though. I shove my hip against it, hoping it will shatter. it doesn't. I bite my lip and grab a long dull piece of wood. It's heavy, and I loose my balance, tripping and stumbling, trying to grasp it. It cracks the window and then falls. I grimace, pleading it doesn't hit anyone below. After waiting a few seconds, I sit on the ledge of the window, clearing the glass away. I study the building. The silver bricks are uneven, making it seem really easy to get to the top. Too easy. But I decide to try to climb it anyways. The higher up, the better. Last time I jumped out at level 95. I wonder what it will be like to jump off 5 stories higher. I gather up my breath as I hear a deep voice scream from behind me. "HEY! CRAZY LADY! GET O-"

I don't have time to hear what he says. I jump off of the ledge, just missing his fist extended to grab me.

I reach out my arm to grab whatever I can. It's a brick; not a loose one, but one that's popped out. It's all I have. I look up, nothing to shield my eyes from the sinking sun. It's probably about 6:00 p.m.
