Taking one last drag from his cigar, Jason flicked it on the ground and stomped on it before sighing greatly. Today was the anniversary of his wife's death and like every year it hit him hard. Jason walked across the street and began heading to the beach remembering the way they used to walk it, smiling and holding hands like a cliche romance book. The light in his eyes were very dull with dark circles under his eyes from lack of sleep, his bed felt cold without her everything in that house feels cold. Jason hasn't gotten much sleep unless alcohol was involved in which he used to hate until she disappeared right before his eyes.
He felt the sand beneath his feet and smiled ever so slightly hearing what was her laugh when he picked her up and spun her. Jason walked for miles following the same path they did that day seeing her there made him run for a second until he realized she wasn't really there. You could see him deflate his demeanor said, "I'm broken." yet no one could help him they tried and tried but nothing could mend his broken heart. It seemed like his soul was taken with her like it left his body leaving only the sadness and depression that consumed him completely. Jason felt like he had no more purpose in this fucked up world, his job sucked, he lived in a shitty apartment, and eventually everyone just gave up on him.
Walking up the steps to what used to be their favorite corner store, Jason entered and going to the same isle getting her favorite candy, Hershey cookies n'cream chocolate bar. He never really liked it but it was really the only thing that reminded him of her. Grabbing two, he headed to the cashier nodding to the clerk who knew them both. He quietly paid before heading out opening one of the bars and taking a square, he took a bite not really tasting it just letting the memory of her consume his mind. She took a bite and smiled before kissing his cheek always grateful for buying her the chocolate.
Jason headed to the intersection where she was hit by a car and instantly killed, today it wasn't busy so people tend to go too fast. He finished the chocolate bar and left the second one in his pocket, he waited for the right moment and stepped onto the street. Jason was instantly hit by a truck and went rolling down the street hitting it hard, he looked up at the sky as he slowly died waiting for the sweet release. He got up but he wasn't part of his body anymore but in spirit form, he looked around ignoring the living screaming and rushing to his dead body. He was looking for his wife hoping she was there waiting for him. She appeared before him with sadness in her eyes but a smile on her face, he hugged her tightly and cried having missing her so. Jason reached into his pocket and pulled out the second Hershey bar and gave it to her, she gave a sad laugh before opening it and taking a bite. Jason smiled before he felt himself being pulled back, he frowned and looked back at his body and saw the paramedics bringing him back. He screamed and tried running to his wife not wanting to return to the world. But it was no use, he saw his wife wave goodbye before he was pulled back into his body.
