He stood in a clearing in the middle of the woods waiting. Just waiting. For the man he was in love with. It always seemed Xander was the one who showed up first and would have to wait for the older Salvatore son but he knew he wouldn't have to wait for long. Damon was always never far behind.
He ran his fingers through the soft green grass, listening to the owls hoot and the crickets chirp. The moon light shining down on him.
Damon came into his view and a smile lit up on Xander's face, he stood up and quickly ran over to his lover, throwing his arms around his neck and kissing him.
There was something wrong though. Xander could immediately tell. Damon kissed him quick and desperately as if it was the last kiss they would be sharing. Xander pulled back, looking into the blue eyes he had fallen in love with. The blue eyes held sorrow and sadness and it was putting Xander on edge. "What's wrong?" He asked softly, scared of the answer.
Damon took in a deep breath, leaning forward to rest his head on Xander's. "There's something I need to tell you but I don't want to because when you hear what I say it'll make you sad and I hate seeing you sad. Especially if it's because of me."
"Damon you're scaring me. Just tell me." Xander nearly demanded. "Nothing you could've done is going to make me love you any less."
"It's not what I've done... it's what I'm doing." Damon whispered, wrapping his arms around Xander and pulling him tight against his body, knowing that it was the last time he would be feeling it in a long time. "I've joined the army."
Xander's mouth dropped but nothing came out, he pulled back, hoping to see that his lover was joking but when he saw the serious look in his blue eyes, his heart shattered. "No. You-you can't leave. What are you talking about? You can't be serious."
"I am. I went with my father today and signed up."
"You signed up without even talking to me about it first?! How did you think that that was a good idea? Do you not even care about how I feel about this?"
"Of course I care but I knew that if I told you then you would convince me not to go." Damon put his hand on Xander's cheek, only for the other boy to push it away.
"People die in wars Damon! Do you hear me? Dead. Gone. Never to walk the earth again. I love you. I love you so much. I can't lose you." Xander had his back faced toward Damon, his hands in his hair as silent tears fell from his eyes.
