Once the trio was out of sight, Alexander pushed his blond mate onto the lockers and whispered furiously, "How many times will I have to tell you this, Jace? We're keeping a low-profile. We're here on a mission, not to flirt and play lacrosse. Got this?"

"Hey, I did nothing! If you wanna find a culprit, just ask Isabelle. It's not because I'm not your biological brother that you've got to put the blame on me every time." Jace set himself free by gently pushing Alec away.

"Come on," the black-haired girl said. "We can have fun, too. You're always too serious, big bro. Relax. And this boy was pretty cute, earlier. You should've asked for his phone number."

"I don't want it." He paused. "Do you remember why we're here?" He lowered his voice after glancing at the quiet hall. "We're meant to chase a werewolf. And unless you've already found who he is, I'd advise you not to get friendly with potential suspects. Especially cute ones."

Isabelle turned to Jace. "He's not funny, is he? I thought we'd finally be normal teenagers for at least a moment, going to parties, having friends other than your family, but no, Mister Lightwood thinks it's too risky."

Alec rolled his eyes. "Let's go. We haven't checked the locker room yet."

"Wait. Ain't we supposed to go to class before?" Jace asked. "Though I have no idea how it works."

"Yeah, let's go to class," Isabelle said with a smirk. "We're just keeping low-profile. You wouldn't like us to miss a period on our first day, would you, big brother?"

Alec clenched his fists, but took his timetable and headed for his class. Before entering it, he hid behind a wall, took his Shadowhunter's stele and draw a rune meant to increase his hearing, and covered his bleeding skin with his shirt.

When he entered the classroom, still clenching his jaw from the pain, the biology teacher made him stop to introduce himself. He just mumbled a quiet "Hi, I'm Alec" and waited to be placed.

"Just sit next to Danny, his lab partner is absent today." The teacher pointed at a Hawaiian boy in a red shirt, and Alec discovered it was the boy he and his brothers had run into a few minutes earlier.

He sat, and thanks to his supernatural hearing, he noticed the boy's heartbeat had drastically fastened.

"Hi, I'm Danny," he murmured, trying to smile even though his body was shaking

"Hi, I'm Danny," he murmured, trying to smile even though his body was shaking. "And I just realise how stupid this was. He just told you my name. Uh, sorry." Alec couldn't help but smile a little at his clumsiness. "So where do you come from? Are people as tactless as me, there?"

"I don't know, I couldn't tell. But not as cute." Alec bit his lips. Hell, where did that come from? He mentally slapped himself for a) flirting with that Danny boy, and b) revealing his homosexuality. That was far from keeping low-profile.

Danny was blushing and searching for his words, but when Alec opened his mouth to correct himself and try to arrange the whole thing, he heard a low conversation at the back of the room.

"Stiles, I don't know, okay? I don't remember what happened on the full moon, I don't remember seeing or not seeing Derek, and I don't know who the Alpha could be!"

"Okay, okay, I was just wondering, sorry. I just thought you could feel it, you know. Werewolves are dogs, basically? So sixth sense, all that, right?"

"No, it doesn't work like that. Look, we've got to find Derek. He's more experienced, and maybe he knows something we don't about the Alpha."

"I'm not going back to his creepy house, Scott! Did they say if werewolves ate human meat? Because I'm pretty sure he does!"

"We're going! But not tonight, I've got plans with Allison. I'll let you know."

Alec focused back on the blackboard and smiled. He might just have found what he was looking for.

"Alec?" Danny asked him. "Did you hear me?"

"Yeah, sorry. I gotta go."

He rose in the middle of the class, making the teacher start.

"Mr Lightwood?"

"May I go to the bathroom, sir?"

"Yes, of course."

He rushed out to press his fingers on one of his runes meant to bind him to his siblings. Within a minute, they were running to him.

"What happened?" Jace asked, out of breath, wearing a sports outfit.

"I think I've found him."

"In your class?" Isabelle said in a low voice.

"Yes. Biology. His name is Scott, I think. They also mentioned someone called Derek. And an Alpha."

"But that makes three of them! God, we were supposed to put one dissident werewolf down, not a pack of it!"

"Maybe there's only one of them who's broken the Accords. It looked liked they were not together."

"Three lonely werewolves in one town?" Jace whispered back.

"Let's just focus on this one. He'll lead us to the others," Alec declared.

His sister and adoptive brother nodded and silently got back to class. Except for Alec. There was no way he was getting back in there, with a cute guy he could totally fall for.
