It was always a debate between The Game of Life or Monopoly. Both were my favorites, albeit for different reasons. Mom and Dad, when they were alive and I lived with them, always favored Life over Monopoly. A lot of people get this...puckered face when I start talking about Monopoly.
But tonight, I was playing by myself. Like usual.
I wonder what's keeping Jenny...
Cousin Jenny, probably one of the most temperamental people I had have been in contact with. And that included people who blamed my autism on vaccines. Anyway, I moved in with my cousin roughly thirteen (fourteen?) years ago. It was after Nana and Papa passed away. Cancer took my parents, kidney failure my Papa, and old age Nana. You'd think that at least Nana didn't suffer...but I'm not sure you'd be right. And if you weren't deteriorating physically, you had to be doing it mentally to belong in this family.
I finally got Monopoly all setup and ready to go when the front door unlocked.
"You're fucking pathetic," Jenny sneered as soon as her eyes met mine.
"Where were you?" I dare asked.
"Don't worry your pretty little head about me."
After she shed her coat and kicked off her dirty tennis shoes, she actually joined me in the kitchen. At the table. She was sitting with me. I didn't want to ruin the moment, but I felt compelled to ask, "Did you visit Casey again?"
Jenny stayed silent, but I could see she was feeling troubled. So, yes, she must've went to Casey's grave.
"She didn't deserve this life," Jenny muttered.
"Neither did you," I said tentatively, reaching over to put my hand on her shoulder.
Huge mistake.
The millisecond my skin made contact with hers is when the switch flipped.
"Don't touch me!" she screamed, flipping the shanty kitchen table over. Paper money fluttered to the ground slowly as my cousin stomped off to her room. I was going to have a hell of a time cleaning this up, especially with some the pieces under the oven.---
Don't ask me what time it was, all I knew is I was half asleep. Jenny came into my room while I was on the computer, looking on eBay at vintage board games, and sat on my bed.
"Liv, I've got a plan."
"What are you talking about?" I yawned, swiping at my drooping eyelids.
"To avenge Casey."
"I don't--"
"It was all Felicia's fault. She's the one that made Richard crazy, the one that he went after. Felicia is the reason Casey is dead. She killed my daughter."
"Jenny that's not really--"
"Felicia has a few kids herself. The only one that's living with her though is the youngest, Reyna. I don't even know if she stays in contact with the other one.
Anyway Olivia, I need you to help me with this plan. Promise me you'll help me."
I squirmed in my seat and kept my eyes glued on the floor. In my right mind, I knew agreeing to all of this was insanity. Not agreeing, however? Well, I didn't want to experience that side of the coin.
"I promise," I mumbled.
"Good girl," Jenny purred.
