I looked at my hands as the glowing stops. I look back up at Ray scared out of my mind, trembling. Ray gently puts his arms around me and says, "It'll be alright. I'm sure it just has something to do with the vergence. I'm here." He pulls my chair closer to him and quietly holds me.
Egon comes in and says, "Peter and I were checking the containment unit and we heard screaming... is everything alright?"
Ray replies, "Yeah... we're fine. She just upset herself... because the power of the vergence activated."
Egon says, "Fascinating. What exactly happened?"
Ray says, holding me in his shoulder, "Her mother came... her hands started glowing when she starting screaming and ghosts chased her mother off. It was strange."
Egon sits down across from Ray and me and I look at him from behind my tears, he says, "It sounds like her emotions can dictate the fluctuation of the power embedded in being the vergence. A part of the fluctuations of psychokinetic energy is emotion. Like the mood slime, for example, negative energy builds up and when the buildup is enough that energy overflows. In this case, the residual hate for her mother's not supporting her choices overflowed and her mind utilized the vergence to rid of Emma. And seen as Lawrence died last night she's going to fight for Ace... because Ace technically isn't emancipated yet. Her degree says she can support herself... but her mother has the right to drag her home."
Ray says, "But obviously "home" is not where she wants to be."
Egon replies, thinking, "Right.... and we have three paths, all of which require her mother's consent: emancipation, custody transfer, and marriage. Our best path is is custody transfer or emancipation. Having experienced the full gravity of Ace's powers, maybe she'll be willing to sign over custody. I'll try tomorrow at the funeral."
Ray nods and looks down at me and say, "We won't let her drag you home... and if she does... you run back to us again. We'll find you."
Egon says, "Under usual circumstances, I would not advocate for a child running away from home, but you belong here. Where you will be safe. I made my vow to take care of you... and I will no matter the obstacles."
~~~~ Peter's POV ~~~~
I have been waiting for Egon to come back for five minutes, what is keeping him? I swear if he's under Janine's desk again... I will know it's not innocent "I'm fixing her computer". Nobody I've met has had their computer break twice in a month. Does it count as PDA, since he's still technically at home. One part of me says that he's too "Egon" to be doing what it seems like he's doing under there, but the other part wonders if it's all a facade and he is actually like that. You can't really tell with that one. Preparing for the worst, I go upstairs to the main floor looking for Egon and instead find Janine sitting at her desk crying. I really had found the worse, crying women were worse than anything imaginable. I think I'd rather face Gozer blindfolded, alone, and unarmed than a crying woman. I do what I have to do anyway. "What's wrong Janine?" I ask.
"Louis and I broke up," Janine says sadly.
I say, trying to cheer her up, "You know what... he doesn't realize what a wonderful woman he lost. Besides, you can reel the guy you want in, if you try hard enough."
Janine says, in her nasally tone, "Ya think so, Peter?"
I reply, "Of course. How hard could it be to reel in an Egon? I mean its a creature rarer than a Bigfoot riding a unicorn reading the first edition of a Shakespeare play, but all in all it's not a hard creature to catch. Because it's distracted by the book and how fast is the unicorn going to be moving?"
Janine laughs a little and sniffles, "Oh Peter, you're a wonderful friend. How do you manage the humor?"
I smile and say, "It's a gift. A gift I use to lighten the mood. Don't be sad bout Louis, Janine. You can get so much better." I see Egon coming downstairs and say, "Ah there's the man of the hour. The one everybody wants to see. Our Bigfoot on a unicorn."
