'Ugggh, is it morning already?' Fayla groaned as she rolled over to shut off the horribly annoying sound of the alarm. All she wanted to do was to go back to sleep. She closed her eyes, shielding them from the blinding morning sunshine forcing its way through her curtains like a nosy intruder. Slowly she remembered that today was officially her last day of school. Forever, if that is what she chose. College seemed to her like a waste of time and money since she could look up almost anything she ever needed to know on the Internet. Today was it; the last day of being forced to sit in a room with obnoxious, fake people who's priorities were solely based on the reactions and number of likes and follows they were given on the countless number of social media apps that seemed to control their every move like mindless robots. Ahhh, soon she would be free of the idiocy.
Suddenly rejuvenated, she hopped out of bed and jumped into the shower, lightly singing as she did so. After showering she went to her closet to pick out her outfit for the day with a towel wrapped around her head. She was an average looking young woman, with a medium height and build. The only thing she had going for her was her long shiny jet black hair and her eyes. She had one green eye and one violet eye. Heterochromia iridium is the name of it, according to the doctors. Over her time in school she was repeatedly teased and labeled as a freak, but she didn't care. It reassured her of who her true friends really were. Speaking of friends, she heard her cell phone chime, announcing she just received a text message. She finished pulling on her jeans and a tattered looking t-shirt with a black sports bra underneath and unwrapped the towel from her hair before picking up her phone. She had expected it to be her best bud Zaiden, as he always texted her first thing every morning. But this text was from an unknown number.
The text read, 'If you are a recipient of this text, then you have been invited to the bangin-est, most off-the-chain graduation party this side of the galaxy! Be there or be square! RSVP by the end of the school day today to receive the address. Anyone trying to RSVP after school will be too late, so hit me back ASAP! Dueces.'
Fayla closed out her message app and tossed her phone on the bed, shaking her head. It was probably one of the cliche fakes from her class that thought they would make themselves feel better by inviting the whole class, but then only giving out the address to who they actually wanted to go. How considerate of them, riiiight. While brushing her hair, her phone chimed again. She finished braiding her long hair (which was a feat in itself) and picked up her phone again. This time it was from Zaiden. The first thing he asked was about the party text and if she had RSVP'd yet to go.
She replied, 'Ummm, no. Why would I wanna go 2 some fake's party? Prolly just a prank anyway. Doubt we would ever get the address.'
She set her phone down again and continued to get ready when her phone rang. She looked down at it and it was Zaiden, she she answered it and put him on speaker so she could continue to get ready to leave.
"What's up buuuddy?" She asked him, as was her usual greeting to him.
"I don't think it was a fake that's throwing the party." He replied hastily.
"Oh yeah? What makes you so sure? Who do you owe money to now for that info?" She asked jokingly.
"Ha-ha Fay, you're so funny. I didn't bribe anybody. And I happen to know this info because it's me that's throwing the party."
Fayla looked at herself blankly in the mirror.
"Wow, what possessed you to throw a party? That's a pretty brave move there, buddy." She said, half chuckling.
"Not sure. I just figured what the hell, it's my last chance to make a complete fool of myself in our last high school moments. Either it will be a complete failure or a complete success. I, am prepared for both situations." Zaiden replied nonchalantly.
