Chapter 2: The Cybernet Criminal

Kamui's P.O.V

So, for those having trouble remembering. Let's do a quick recap; I'm Kamui Otsuka, the main attacker for an F.B.I agency known as "Vanish". Our four-member organization is involved in solving cold cases for people who need any help they can get. While our form of "justice" may not be to your liking, we'll do whatever we can to bring peace to Osaka.

Shō's P.O.V

"In the main, ghosts are said to be forlorn and generally miserable, if not downright depressed. The jolly ghost is rare."

I read this quote while I was skimming through an encyclopedia about ghosts and entities from beyond the ethereal wall between life and death. I'm not one to know much about ghosts or the afterlife, besides the fact that they haunt people for reasons only known to themselves. You may've heard of me before, the name's Shō Hirigakasu. I'm an elite hacker and computer specialist for a radical detective group. I work mainly at the base and don't really get a spotlight too much, I'm more or less a defense class if anything else. However, my side of this four-part split started like this. I was just hard at work on creating my own form of the internet that can run without satellite connection; this was interrupted by my boss' voice blasting over the intercom.

"Shō, report to my office immediately. I have a job for you!"

Without a seconds worth of thought, I bolted into his office and hopped over the chair to sit on his desk.

"Could you get off my desk, please?" Kanai sighed loudly and took out a manila folder.

"What's this, boss-eroni and cheese?"

"All of us are going on separate missions this week, since you're already awake. I'll be giving you your task."

I slowly opened the folder to see a picture of a black figure in a chair within a cracked laptop screen. Tons of names were listed next to it.

"Uhm, "The Cybernet Criminal." Who's he?"

"That man within the laptop screen is a highly wanted criminal, he's able to hack into a person's personal profile and find their worst fears. Once he gets both their fear and address, he murders them with their fear. He's been on the run for five months and a suspect was last sighted in Goki city."

I read over the folder a few times and placed it in my satchel.

"Are you sure you'd want to trust me with this one, boss?"

"Shō, I know very well you're an excellent detective. You can solve this with ease, I've texted you the address of the hotel you'll be staying at. Do *not* fail me."

I left the boss' office and put a bunch of my most famous tools in my satchel. My laptop, a high-grade hacking device, my stun gun, a DNA scanner and my two automatic assault rifles.

"Better catch the bus if I want to get right to work."

I left the base and waited at the nearest bus station, to think a proper mission to myself. That hasn't happened since I first joined this group. The bus arrived soon after, before long I had arrived at the hotel.

"Seems like this is this place?"

I approached the desk; this hotel was extremely fancy for some hobo-hick looking dude like me. Honestly, I wish boss could've gotten me a motel or something.

"Reservation for Shō Hirigakasu?"

The man at the desk, searched through a list of reservations until eventually reaching mine.

"Why yes, of course. You can leave your bag right here; our cleaner will take care of it."

A man with a name pin on his shirt appeared with a bright smile on his face.
