Sunny Smile

"You worthless asshole!" Cecil shouts at Kevin.

Kevin stands stiffly, his obsidian eyes cast to the ground. The profanities Cecil hurls at him are nothing he hasn't heard before, but this is different. He hasn't taken his previous doses of medicine for today. He can barely fake a smile to prevent the pain that will inevitably come when he can lie no longer.

"Cunt! You're just a bastard that hides behind a cheery smile!" Cecil yells endlessly.

"Please stop," Kevin murmurs weakly; his voice is near inaudible.

"... Kevin?" Cecil asks, taken aback by Kevin's feebleness. He didn't seem to notice any of it before, but now that he does, he's quite frankly concerned. He may not like Kevin, but Cecil still feels concern when anyone is hurt.

"I-I'm fine!" Kevin suddenly chirps in response to the unasked question hanging in the air. The answer sounds fake, even to himself. Tears well up in his vision and a familiar burning fills his chest and fogs his mind.

"Kevin... Are you crying?" Cecil asks softly. He instinctively moves closer to Kevin in an attempt to be more of a reassuring and comforting presence. He gently grabs Kevin's arms as if to confirm the reality of either himself or the sight he's bear witness to.

"N-No!" Kevin insists. He starts to repeat himself, but is cut off by his own screams of agony as the blades push into the sensitive flesh behind his eyes. He let his smile slip away again.

Kevin falls to his knees as blood and tears alike rain down from his eyes. Cecil jumps back, shocked and horrified and everything in between. "Kevin! You're-" he starts, but is cut off.

"I-I need my medication!" Kevin cries, before falling into an old habit of rambling. "I-I'm awful at taking it; I hate taking it! M-My veins are no good anymore, my arms are scarring, a-and-!"

Cecil silences Kevin by wrapping his arms around him, pulling him into a warm embrace. "Shhh... It's alright, Kevin," he coos. "You need to calm down."

"I-I'm getting blood on your shirt," Kevin points out, unsure and in pain.

"It's fine; it's not my favorite. I need you to breathe for me."

"I-I can't!" Kevin cries, clawing at his own throat in an attempt to make his lungs accept the toxic air.

"You can. Just like this," Cecil insists before taking deep breaths.

Kevin follows his lead, slowly calming himself as he numbs and the pain ebbs away. As soon as everything stops hurting, tiredness and a few nights' worth of insomnia crash upon him. He slumps into Cecil's arms as the urge to sleep slowly starts to smother him, putting him out like a light.

"Where's your medication?" Cecil asks.

"'N m' p'ck't," Kevin slurs to his self-proclaimed enemy.

Cecil fishes through Kevin's pockets for the medicine, thoughts racing through his mind. He feels as if though he might drown in it all.

At last, Cecil pulls out a rather large syringe. On it, in big orange letters, is the label that reads "Sunny Smile". Cecil frowns at the suspicious medicine that is obviously distributed by Strexcorp. He can't put his finger on it, but something is off. It simply doesn't seem like a real medication of any kind.

Cecil gently lays the now asleep Kevin onto the ground, and grabs a nearby plastic cup. He squirts some of the liquid happiness into in before injecting the rest into Kevin, as he figures Kevin would want. The blood finally stops trailing down Kevin's oddly pale face as he does so.

Cecil pulls out his phone and quickly clicks on his most frequent contact. The phone is answered half way through its third ring.

"Hi, Cecil," says the voice on the other side of the line.

"Carlos, I need your science."
