It's been three days since you, Frisk and the rest of the monsters all arrived on the surface. Humans, though many hesitant to accept the appearance of this new species, had generally welcomed them to the surface. Giving them access to anything they may need. Many monsters left the main group, venturing off, hoping to make a start in this new world. You, on the other hand, had decided to stay close to some of the monsters you had gotten to know best. Two skeletons by the names of Sans and Papayrus. The skelebros. The three of you had already decided to stay in the underground where the two skeletons already had a cozy house, coming up to the surface only to visit friends and grab more supplies. After all, a lot of the shops in the underground would be closing to move up to the surface. Asgore, Toriel and Frisk had also decided to stay underground. Frisk, being only twelve, would be going to a school close to the base of Mt Ebbott. You would be too, being only around 15 years old and only in around the tenth grade when you fell down the hole into Mt Ebbott with Frisk.
Papayrus was out trying for jobs. Sans on the other hand, seemed to only mope around, hanging out on the couch and watching tv all day. Or just staring off into space. It was a trust no one big change from what you were used to with the smaller skeleton, but you and papyrus had both assumed it was some kind of coping mechanism with everyone now leaving for the surface. You hoped. Now that everyone had left the underground, he was no longer needed as a sentry. He still had his illegal job in the hotdog stand, but he rarely even bothered to run it anymore. It was as if he was just waiting for something to happen. something that no one else but him seemed to know about. whatever it was, you hoped it happened soon. You trust no one weren't sure how much more you could take of him just sitting around being so... lifeless. Even his puns were getting bad.
"Y/N? WHERE ARE YOU?"
"over here Paps!" you hollered back.
It had been your first day back at school and Papyrus's frist day working as a security gaurd at one of the major shopping malls nearby. Although most humans were reasonably accepting of monsters, many were still cautious, scared, and some would have even wanted them dead. Papyrus was lucky to be able to find a job so quickly. Then again, the skeleton, though tall and intimidating, did have a very lovable personality and the energy of a child.
Walking out of the kitchen, where you had just been rummaging through the fridge, mostly filled with packets of spaghetti, you rounded the corner into the living room, where Sans was currently snoozing on the couch, only to be barrelled over by flash, of red, white and orange.
"Ahhh, get off you bunch of bones." you giggled good humoredly. Sans, now woken up by the sudden crash as you both hit the floor, watch you 'wrestle' with his brother through one eye.
"Bro. You way a skele-ton. let them at least breathe." Sans mumbled. Both eyes closed again as he returned to sleep.
"SANS, YOU LAZY BONES. GET OFF THE COUCH AND HELP ME TO VANQUISH THIS HUMAN!" Papyrus yelled while chasing you around the living room. Though you were well into your teenage years, papyrus seemed to be able to bring the child out in everyone. You included.
"But the couch is just sooo.... comfy...zzz...zzz"
Sans had managed to roll onto his 'stomach' and fallen back to sleep.
"It's all good Paps" you cheered, as the taller skeleton debated whether or not to yell at his brother again. " i have homework to get done anyway. see you later." You said, before making your way up the stairs. After deciding to live with the two, they had made a new room in between their two bedrooms. It had a F/C bed in the corner, with a wooden desk and chair with a S/F/C cushion. some posters and pictures draped on the walls and a bookshelf filled to the brim with all kinds of fiction, nature, science and school books. You heard papyrus enter the room beside yours and, from the racket and the muffled shoutsechoing from his room, assumed he was playing with his 'sexy' action figures again. Heh. heading back down to grab your school bag from the front door where you had dumped it upon entering the house, you came across Sans, now sitting upright on the couch, muttering to himself.
Trying to be as quite as possible, you stayed where you were and attempted to pick up parts of what he was saying.
"Reset... Genocide..... Chara.....When are they going to do.....Why must they wait?"
None of this made any sense, but it wasn't the jumble of words coming from his mouth that you were focused on. It was his eyes. you had only known This skeleton for a short time. loyal, kind-hearted, secretive, calm and collected. That was pretty much how he could be described in a few words. But now? His head was turned just a little bit towards you, and he was focused on three lines scratched into the wall on the otherside of the living room. Had they been there before? The eye on the far side, which you could't see as well, appeared to be glowing with a strange, blue light. While the eye closer to you, had no pupil. It was just black. This was the face had made when using his magic. But even this didn't surprise you as much as what else he was doing. His shoulders hunched foward, knees tucked up to his stomach and arms curled around his small frame, accompanied by what sounded like dry sobs coming from the small figure tucked up on the couch. Tears welling in the eye closest to you and falling down his skull onto his jacket. Sans, The skeleton who never failed to make you laugh, was always there when you needed him, the secretive big brother with the tough outershell, was crying.
