the sun beat against my rosy cheeks, a glare on my rings creating a white cast on the roof of my car. i pressed play on my old radio, coming to a stop on the san diego freeway. the man in the car next to me was banging his head to a metal band, his fingers tapping in beat on the dashboard. a woman on the other side of me re-applied her nude lipstick, swaying her shoulders to the sound of a new urban band.

my phone buzzed against the gray suede material lined on my car seats. it was my boss, who wouldn't call after my shift. "hello, is everything okay?" i asked, licking my lower lip.

"a guy by the name of ian is here, he's asking for his daughter","says you were suppose to let him take her home today." his monotone voice chimes into the other end of the connection.

"it's kian, i'll be there in a second." i chuckled at the name mistake he made, steering my car into the next exit.

my jeep just barely touched the cement wall, pulling safely into the sheltered car port. lucy kicked her feet to the beat of what was playing in her headphones, my hands working to tie her laces.

"come on baby, daddy is waiting inside." i grabbed ahold of her hand, opening the glass door.

"she's my child too, maybe you should have some more respect to our relationship." kian picked lucy up in his arms, glaring at me from afar.

"it was an accident, kian."

"and so was our relationship." he turned back around and left the building, my heart aching in my chest.

my boss came out from his office, his arms crossed over his chest. "to be completely honest, you brought this over yourself. maybe before you cheated, you should have thought about how he would treat you in the future." he laughed.

"do you really think this is a joke? how did you hear about what happened?" i asked, getting quite offended.

"he came in here and basically told his life story, blabbed about the whole thing." he laughed once again, running his fingers through the patch of hair left on his bald head.

"well, since you think it's so funny, maybe you'll get a kick out of me quitting." i laughed, throwing my key card on the ground and shutting the door behind me.

my ex husband hates me, and now i have no job. this is a great way to start out.

**this isn't the first way i started the second book out, but wattpad decided it would be a great idea to delete half of my first chapter**
