'Katie, are you up?' My Mom called.
I jogged downstairs in my sports bra and leggings, ready for another training session that I didn't want to do and over to my mom who looked at my bare midriff.
'Hmmm. You still have your six-pack but you need to be watching what you eat.'
'Whatever..' I moaned, I hated the constant battle I had to stay skinny, my Mom was obsessed with it, and I just wanted to be me. I barely ate, never had cheat days and never had a day without some form of workout.
My Mom was stick thin too, and was constantly travelling all over the country for her modelling career at which times I would have to stay at my Dads. They split up when I was younger, but I loved staying there because he let me eat whatever I wanted and didn't care about my weight.
'Don't you whatever me! Honey, your figure is important! Come on let's go to the gym.'
We jumped into the car and headed to the gym for an intense work out session. When we had finished my mom received a phone call that would soon change my life.
'I've booked a job in Italy! I leave tomorrow.' She told me, 'I tried to get them to take you, but you aren't old enough yet, it's going to be for at least 6 months so you'll have to stay at your Dad's.' She paused, 'I'm sorry sweetie, you'll have to move to LA for a while.'
I felt gobsmacked, I mean, I was happy for my Mom, she'd worked for this, but I'd have to leave behind all of my friends. And on the other hand I'd get to stay with my Dad, who I hardly ever saw, and this meant I could say goodbye to my green leafed diet and hello to Chick-fil-A and Maccies every night. I was partly relieved but had to immediately tell my friends.
Me and my best friend Megan cried a bit over the phone, but we were okay once we thought of how it would all work, we would visit each other all the time and FaceTime lots. Me and Megan were like sisters, we were both skinny and she was ash blonde and I was brunette, we both had blue eyes and enjoyed the same things. I would miss her. My other friends were sad to see me go, but I never felt a strong bond with many of them anyway, most of them liked me because I was skinny and popular.Soon enough I had packed my belongings and I was on a flight to LA to live with my Dad, while my Mom was off to Italy.
