Y/N's POV
As we were glancing around the castle in awe, an older woman came to the top of a set of stairs in front of us and introduced herself as Professor McGonagall. She said, "Welcome to Hogwarts. The start-of-term banquet will begin shortly, but before you take your seats in the Great Hall, you will be sorted into your houses. The Sorting is a very important ceremony because, while you are here, your house will be something like your family within Hogwarts. You will have classes with the rest of your house, sleep in your house dormitory, and spend free time in your house common room."
"The four houses are called Gryffindor, Hufflepuff, Ravenclaw, and Slytherin........ she stopped as a boy screamed out. "Each house has its own noble history and each has produced outstanding witches and wizards. While you are at Hogwarts, your triumphs will earn your house points, while any rule breaking will lose house points. At the end of the year, the house with the most points is awarded the house cup, a great honor. I hope each of you will be a credit to whichever house becomes yours. ", she continued.
"The Sorting Ceremony will take place in a few minutes in front of the rest of the school. I suggest you all smarten yourselves up as much as you can while you are waiting." I was super excited and nervous, Harry and Ron looked the same. We looked at Professor McGonagall as she looked over at the boy who yelled out earlier (that Hermione later claimed him to be Neville) and seemed disappointed as she realized Neville's cloak was fastened under his left ear. McGonagall glanced at Ron with the same look as she noticed his smudged nose. Harry quickly decided to fix his hair, afraid he would get the same look. "I shall return when we are ready for you," said Professor McGonagall. "Please wait quietly". As Professor McGonagall left, Harry asked Ron, "How exactly do they sort is into houses? "
"Some sort of test, I think. Fred said it hurts a lot, but I think he was joking." Ron replied. Harry looked as if he was going to be sick. "Who is Fred?" Hermione and I asked at the same time. Ron replied, "Fred and George are my older brothers, they are twins, and I also have three other older brothers Bill, Charlie, and Percy. And a younger sister named Ginny." "Oh. " Hermione and I said at the same time again. "You guys have got to stop doing that!" said Harry. "I know right. " said Hermione and I. "Oh bloody hell, come on!" Ron exclaimed. Hermione and I burst into giggles. Neville informed us that he found his toad, but the only person who knew he lost it was Hermione. I kept thinking about the sorting and felt very nervous, and from the looks of it Harry might have been nervous too.
Suddenly, screaming could be heard all around and Harry's face went pale. There was a group of ghosts coming from behind us. They were arguing. What looked like a fat little monk was saying: " Forgive and forget, I say, we ought to give him a second chance-- "
"My dear Friar, haven't we given Peeves all the chances he deserves? He gives us all a bad name and you know, he's not really even a ghost-- I say, what are you all doing here?" a ghost wearing a ruffled top and a head full of curls suddenly noticed the first years. Nobody was brave enough to answer. "New students!" said the Fat Friar, smiling around at us. "About to be Sorted, I suppose?" Very few people nodded. "Hope to see you in Hufflepuff!" said the Friar, "My old house, you know." "Move along now. " McGonagall 's sharp voice rang out, "The Sorting Ceremony's about to start."
"Now, form a line," Professor McGonagall instructed us, "and follow me." As we got into a line, I felt something on my hand, I looked over and saw Harry holding my hand. I don't know why, but I blushed. What's wrong with me? I hold into his hand anyways as we continue walking.
Harry's POVI was super nervous and felt really excited at once. I want to show Y/N that I somewhat like her, so I took her hand in mine as we walked towards the Great Hall. I felt very excited because.... SHE DIDN'T LET GO OF MY HAND! I think she likes me back! I hope she does. Anyways, we were holding hands and Hermione looked over at our hands, then to me and wiggled her eyebrows. I rolled my eyes. Ron being Ron, wasn't paying any attention at all. The Great Hall was magnificent, especially with the candles in the air. Hermione states, "It's just bewitched to look like the night sky. I read about it in Hogwarts: A History." "This is amazing" Y/N whispered. There were four long tables in the Great Hall, occupied with tons of students. I looked over at Y/N to see her eyes filled with amusement. It was beautiful.
Y/N's POVI look over to see Harry staring at me, so I decided to tighten the grip on our hands. He shook his head from what I assume was embarrassment. I thought it was cute. Wait. I seriously need to stop crushing on Harry if I still want to be friends with Draco. Speaking of Draco, I looked over to see him with his head hanging low, and slowly getting in front of Crabbe. I whispered to Harry, "I'll be right back." "Oh um.. ok then." He replied. I walked over to Draco and gave him a hug. He tensed. "I'm sorry, Draco. You just shouldn't have been so rude like that." Draco looked a little happier. " I'm not going to change my ways that I feel or think about mud-..," Draco stopped talking, due to the upset look I was giving him, "muggle-born people, but I promise to stop call them... M words as long as you're around, I accept you apology. " I let go of Draco. "I will see you soon, I hope you have fun." I told him. I ran back over to Harry and turned to see that they have began the Sorting Ceremony. I grab Harry's hand again as we move forward.
I talk with Hermione, letting go of Harry's hand a while ago when he and Ron talked with Neville, until I hear her scoff and ask,"What is he doing here?" I turn to see Draco and his "friends" standing in front of Harry. "Hi. I'm Malfoy, Draco Malfoy. " Draco began. Ron struggled to keep a laugh quiet, and failed miserably . Draco looked over at Ron and spat with such disgust,"Think my name's funny, do you? No need to ask yours. Red hair, and a hand-me-down robe? You must be a Weasley. Well soon you'll find that some wizarding families are better than others, Potter. Don't want to go making friends with the wrong sort." Draco sneers at Hermione and Ron then glances sadly over at me to see that Harry and I have our hands still together. " I can help you there." he finishes, smirking as he extends a hand to Harry. His smirk falters when he saw my disapproving look, but he still stuck his hand out. "I think I can tell who the wrong sort are for myself, thanks." Harry replied with a sneer.
Draco glares at him, but keeps silent as a man with glasses and a huge beard starts talking. "I have a few start of term notices I wish to announce. The first years please note that the dark forest is strictly forbidden to all students. Also, our caretaker, Mr. Filch," the man signals to ragged old man with a cat with red eyes, " has asked me to remind you that the 3rd floor corridor on the right hand side is out of bounds to everyone who does not wish to die a most painful death. Thank you." Dumbledore the school's head master, as Hermione whispered to inform me of , finished his speech. I glance over at Hermione, she looks confident, but also nervous, then to Ron, he is still looking at Dumbledore, and then to Harry, who looks as if he might pass out. He is very pale, I wonder what he's thinking.
I was snapped out of my thoughts as I hear McGonagall say, "When I call your name, you will come forth, I shall place the sorting hat on your head, and you will be sorted into your houses. Hermione Granger." The boys and I give her a look of sympathy as she makes her way to the stairs. "Oh, no. Okay, relax." I hear Hermione whisper to herself as she goes up. "Mental that one, I'm telling you." Ron states. Harry nods in agreement. I look at the both of them and smack the backs of their heads. "Seriously boys, be nice, or Hermione and I will have to look elsewhere for friends." Harry and Ron both look down and I hear Harry murmur "S-sorry Y/N." I pay attention to the hat and Hermione just in time for me to hear it yell, "Gryffindor!!" Everyone cheers. Hermione jumps off with a smile and heads to the Gryffindor table. McGonagall calls out the next name, "Draco Malfoy." I glance over at Draco and give him a small smile, I'm still upset with him for making fun of my new friends again. Draco saunters up proudly. The tattered hat nearly freaks before touching down on Draco's head. "SLYTHERIN!" it screeched.
"There isn't a witch or wizard who went bad who wasn't in Slytherin." Ron whispered to us while glaring at Draco. I feel awful that my friends think that way, I wonder what they'd think of me once I'm in Slytherin. When I said I most likely will be in Slytherin, I meant I'm destined to be. Everyone in my family was a Slytherin, it's one of the Malfoy family's favorite things about my family. McGonagall called out the next name, but I was worried thinking about everything that would go wrong.Author's note
Honestly I just saw this in my drafts, so I thought I'd post it.
