"We have no way of getting you back home, unless there is some portal that leads back to where you came from.  And we don't know of anything like that existing here."

Everyone had gathered– Corps members and Shinoa Squad alike– in the lobby on the first floor. Guren, Shinya, Levi, and Erwin had called the younger members of their teams together to present their ideas.

"Guren has explained the situation to us."  Erwin stated, straight-faced and serious as usual.  Mikaela listened intently, standing close to his brother while maintaining distance from the others.

"We plan to head to the base in Ikebukuro next– it is under the juristiction of JIDA."  Shinya laid out a worn-down map, roughly outlining a place Mikaela vaguely recognized.  I must have been there before, but it was so long ago...

"It'll be protected by a wall, brats.  Whatever we are searching for has to be a recon mission; in and out before raising the alarm."  Levi spoke calmly, standing beside Erwin.

"Shinya and I have visited this base once– it was less of a concern to the others charged with watching over the three human cities.  We don't have a floor plan, but we do have a vague idea where we will need to go." The man placed his finger on an area in the eastern part of Ikebukuro.  "The heart of the operation lies here, and beneath it is the vault where the valuable research and other important materials are kept."

"Mikaela and a small group of three will be the ones to infiltrate the facility– three others will monitor the outside of the building to keep an eye out for any alarms should they be set off."  Erwin jumped in, earning a nod from Shinya.

"The others will provide a distraction far from where the mission will take place."

"So who'll be going into the base?"  Yu cut in, and Mikaela could sense the eagerness in his voice.  The blond had a feeling Yu wouldn't be upbeat for long.

"Group one– the infiltration group– will consist of Mikaela, Kimizuki, Armin, and Eren," Guren raised his hand before Yu could protest, continuing with his explanation.  "Shinya, Yoichi, and Mikasa will make up group two, which will monitor the base's perimeter.  Group three will be the rest of us; we will mount a distraction that draws the attention of the soldiers stationed in Ikebukuro."

"Wait, why am I not infiltrating with Mika?!"  Yu shrilled, and the vampire set a hand on his brother's shoulder in an attempt to calm him down.

"Silence, Yuichiro!"  Guren hissed.  "Mikaela and Kimizuki are skilled in close combat, and Armin will be their brain should any security problems arise.  Eren will be there as the last resort– in the case that everything crashes, he will need to transform."

"I feel more comfortable by Eren's side."  Mikasa stated, eyes flashing protectively.

"Yoichi and I are skilled in long-distance combat and sniping."  Shinya explained.  "Should anyone get close, we'll need backup, and you are skilled in close combat."

"The rest of us are fairly skilled in close-range fighting, which we'll need after the distraction."  Levi drawled, arms crossed as his eyes swept over the group.

"And, the people left inside the base won't recognize the infiltration group, but there is a possibility they could recognize Shinya or me.  That is a risk we can't take." Guren said. "We have communications set up to contact one another should the portal actually be located in Ikebukuro."

"Everyone get ready– this plan will be executed tonight." Shinya cut in, and they were dismissed with a wave of Shinya's hand. A barely-audible growl tore itself from Yu's throat, and Mikaela glanced over at his brother with soft eyes.

"Don't worry, Yu– I'll keep the others safe."

"It's not them I'm worried about." The teen replied, narrowing his eyes at the blond. "It's you. Mika, I just got you back after years of thinking you were dead. I can't lose you again." A gentle smile worked its way onto Mikaela's face, and he set his hand on Yu's shoulder once more.

"I'll be careful, and I want you to do the same. Avoid taking any unnecessary risks, and we will see each other once the mission is completed." Yu sighed deeply, nodding his head as the other teenagers gathered around.

"Good luck, Mikaela and Kimizuki. Please be safe." Yoichi said, smiling as he sent the two encouraging looks.

"You be safe, yourself, Yoichi." Kimizuki retaliated, ruffling the brunette's hair in fondness.

"We'll be counting on you, should anything go wrong and we need an escape route." Mikaela said, nodding at Yoichi. The brunette smiled.

"Shinya and I will be ready."

"Don't get yourselves killed, idiots." Mitsuba cut in, raising an eyebrow. "I don't want to lose any team members on this mission."

"What she said." Shinoa stated, smirking around at her squad mates. "I expect to see you all alive when we meet up at the rendezvous point."

"Split up into your groups, and move out!" Guren's voice boomed, gaining everyone's attention. Yu shot one last, piercing look at Mikaela before his brother turned to join up with Armin, Kimizuki, and Eren.

"This mission better be a success." Mikaela heard Kimizuki whisper under his breath. Though he agreed with the salmon-haired teen, the vampire remained quiet, leading his group away from the others. The vampire sensed that it was going to be one long night.

The surprise in store for him was nothing he could have imagined.
