Why do you do it?

The one question you should never ask a person with a mental disorder is, 'Why do you do it'.

You can't ask a self harmer, 'Why do you do it? Cutting, burning or whatever'. We can't reply, saying oh, I'm really depressed, and I hate myself. We're scared to answer questions. Some times our reasons aren't worthy enough of explaining. Can't describe what we're feeling to do something this to our bodies.

You can ask a person with an eating disorder, they can't reply 'Oh. I think I'm fat, so I'm starving myself to fit in with others, and feel worthy.' They can't describe what they are going through when someone asks a hard question.

You can ask a person a question like that. It makes them feel unworthy, unwanted, like people think they do it for attention.

What if we were to ask you, 'Why do you do it? Smile all the time'. How would you answer that?
