Summer Heat Pt.2: Complicated

There was a bit of a silence before Tetsu managed to spit anything out. Even speaking to Eijirou nearly made him choke on his words.

"Hey bro, are you gonna say it or what?! You got me all curious down here Tetsu!"

"Please, drop whatever plans you have and just come to the beach Eiji."

"Dude, I have a full day of workout planned! I can't be lounging at the beach!"

"But why can I hear Kaminari, Neito and Sero in the background? Hey, they working out too?"

"Heh, yeah, um, bro, I'm a little busy. I'll get back to you later."

The phone call was cut and the tone died out.

That, and Tetsu was still sweating.

He thought he could say it, but it was as if there was no space to breathe.

_______ slid open the door of his balcony, and he still seemed to be too stuck in his predicament to notice her.

"Hey big guy, the food is ready if you're done out here!"

Tetsu snapped back out of thought, looking down at his rather large hands when he did. His heart was not as racy as he expected it to be. The palms of his hands were perspiring; he rubbed them against the outer layer of his shorts and followed _______ without saying a word.

She pulled a chair and sat opposite him, pouring some low-fat single cream over her berry muffin and grabbing a fork to pierce through the fluffy, gooey mass. Tetsu made haste and sat too, scoffing down the muffins and pancakes, drinking his smoothie in gulps. He supposed he just needed some energy to clear the mist in his mind.

The sunshine bounced off the surface of her forearm, her skin bright under the rays of the summer day. Her smile was equally blinding as she watched him in admiration, demolishing his food. She really did take a particular liking to him since their first meeting. There was a lesser side to him that he rarely showed but it was a side that was compassionate and soft in its ways.

"Tetsu, you know, you ought to get a girlfriend one of these days! Maybe she can pull your head out of the clouds! C'mon, you may as well as summer is just beginning and the days are young!"

She made exaggerated, large movements in the air as she said this, all animated and dramatic.

Tetsu grunted - "I'm just fine with you."

_______ felt herself becoming shy and a little prideful if just for a moment. This was another thing she enjoyed about her friend; his brutal, punchy honesty.

Tetsu made a move to get up and picked up her bag as well as his own.

"Come on _______, let's go and get to the beach before it gets packed!"

Tetsu was thankful that he somehow mustered up his courage again. He just needed to think things through, that's all. Yeah, that's what he convinced himself with.

With his head held high, he followed in her wake, onwards to the beach. Her hair flowed, so buoyant and fluffy, draping over her shoulders as she led the way. Onwards, he thought, to the beach then.
