It was the new year, which meant school again. I hated school, people would make fun and stare at me just because I'm different. I have Pentology of Cantrell, which means that my heart is outside my chest.
I was sitting in history, my favorite class, when the Mr. Diggs said, "Class, we have a new student today. Welcome, Margarita Skylay." I watched as Margarita made her way across the room to the desk next to mine.
"I'm Margarita, Meg for short," she said to me
"I'm Cassiopeia, but you can call me Cass," I responded.
By the time lunch came, everybody was trying to sit next to Meg. She glanced around the lunch room and walked over to me. "Ugh! Are they always like this? I just wanted to eat but they fought about who should sit next to me!" Meg exclaimed.
I smiled, "Do you know why people avoid me?" I asked. She shook her head. "I have Pentalogy of Cantrell, so my heart is outside my body." I explained, motioning to my heart. "That's awesome!" She yelled, maybe a little too loud. Everyone was looking at us and the lunchroom went quiet. I could hear whispers and laughing. I was about to leave when Meg gets up, "What is wrong with you guys? Judging someone by their looks? Haven't you ever heard, 'Never judge a book by its cover'? If your friend was different, would you JUDGE THEM? I can't believe you all. I thought this school would be better," Meg ranted, storming out of the lunchroom. I ran out after her.
"That was a really cool thing you did back there," I said to her.
" I just hate it when people do that. My old school used to do that, I was the only blonde in my grade. They would say that I was, 'a dumb blonde'. It just sucks when people do that," she smiled at me. We walked to math together. At this moment, I knew that I had met my life-long best friend.
