"Everything will be fine."

"There's nothing you can do."

"It's not a problem.

"Don't worry about it."

"I'm fine."

"There was nothing you could've done."

Lies are tricky things. Things we say to reassure ourselves that life will continue running smoothly, no matter what. Most often, lies are just that. Lies. Phrases that must be taken with a grain of salt, that must be searched thoroughly for the meaning within.

What if you believed every one of these lies? The world would be so much brighter, because you wouldn't know the difference. Everything would always be fine, and there would never be anything you could do. It would be too perfect.

But what if you had no choice but to believe? What if every word was golden truth, for better or for worse?

"That's a very nice picture you drew me."

"If you don't bother the spider, it won't bother you."

"You'll get hurt playing by the river with your brothers."

"You're very good at learning languages."

"If you don't do your studies, you'll never make a good wife."

"You should care about your appearance more."

"You're going to be married soon. Don't worry, you'll be very happy."

"You'll make a wonderful wife, darling."

Wilkynn Geodonna believed everything she heard. Every fragment of lie, every grain of truth, and every joking exaggeration. She was surrounded by truth, and nothing in between. No grey area. Not even black and white. Only white. Only perfection.

Not that Wilkynn, often called Wilky by her siblings, had any reason to think life was anything other than perfect. She was born into a high class Tawnian family, and lived in a grand two story house that sat right on the banks of the Tawno River. Her future was as bright as the smile that always seemed to perch upon her lips, and as she turned eighteen, her parents were busy searching for potential husbands. Wilky didn't mind the idea of an arranged marriage. She had been told she would be happy, and she believed it.

She didn't have a choice.
