Middle school came
The girl got honors
But so did her cousin
Her family only noticed
The one that mattered.
She looked in the mirror
And told herself
To get better grades
To behave better
To look prettier
To be everything her family wanted her to be
But for some reason
She kept making mistakes
One wrong on this test
A B on this assignment
An F in life.
She felt like she needed to be perfect
In order to be better
Because she wasn't good enough
She noticed her friends
Had families
That weren't knocked down
Or beaten and bruised
They had a strong bond
So she felt lesser than them too.
