It was late, but Greta refused to put down the book. Her eyes were glued to the pages as she read this tale of a magician and his apprentice. Something about the magician's apprentice seemed so familiar, he oddly reminded her of Desmond,  and the fact that the apprentice's name,"Desi," was  uncanny to her. "Perhaps this is why he loved the book so much, the character is just like him," she mumbled to herself. "Or maybe the fact that it is me!" Greta screamed in fear and fell back in her chair. A hand placed over her mouth, "Shhh! Don't scream, I wasn't trying to scare you." Greta's eyes widened with fear as Desmond slowly removed his hand from her mouth, "D-Desmond? ...H-how in God's name did you get in my room?!? What are you doing here?! I swear to God if you were being a peeping Thomas, I'll send you off to the police!" Desmond placed a finger to his lips, "Shh, Your parents will come in from your yelling! I was not being a 'peeping Thomas,' I would never! That's too ungentlemanly like!"  Desmond stood up,"I was wanting to know how you liked the book, You told me you'd read it tonight! You seemed to be enjoying it!" Greta picked herself up and smoothed out her night gown, "I was enjoying it,thank you. But enough with that, Tell me how you got in my room! I'm three stories up, and there is no way to get into the window!" Desmond looked down,Greta followed his gaze, "And where did that book come from? I don't remember checking it out from the library, is it yours?!" Greta was getting frustrated with the boy, as he was not answering her. "Answer me,Desmond!" "All right, all right! Gosh blimey, stop your yelling!" Desmond picked up the chair Greta had fallen out of and told her to sit. Giving him an angry look, Greta huffed, but sat. "Now then, explain yourself." Desmond sat on the floor and crossed his legs, and began to curl his hair with his finger, "Well.. I.. You know you wont believe me, right?" "Well tell me and we shall see." "Well.. You know the book you were just reading? .... I'm the magician's apprentice.. " Greta's mouth dropped. A nervous chuckle escaped her lips. "God, you're joking me. Do you think I am really idiot enough to believe that?! I mean sure he's a lot like you, but that his mad talk." "I'm telling the truth! It's a long story... But I can prove it!" Desmond stood up and walked over to the book on Greta's desk, "Ah, 'Cursed Mountain,' This is my book! I know you don't believe me, but I am a magician...well.. magician apprentice! I can do magic, and that's how I got here." Greta bit her lip, a bit scared. 'This boy is insane,' she thought, 'And he's in my room.' Desmond looked at her scared face. "No, please don't be scared, I'm not a mad boy!   I travel through books with my magic....I found that magic doesn't work much in the real world, because no one believes in it... But books, ah, books are filled with magic! I'll show you."  Desmond placed the book he held in his hand on the ground, and opened it. "Now watch closely!" Desmond placed his foot on the book, but it didn't stop on the book, it kept going through. Greta's eyes widened with shock as light shown through the pages.  A breeze swirled through the room causing the trinkets and books on Greta's desk to shake. "H-how are you doing that?! It's most impossible!" Desmond looked up at her with a big grin.  "Ha! It's magic, you silly girl!"  Desmond crossed his arms, "I told you I wasn't mad!" Greta was now full of curiosity, "This is so amazing! Oh, how I wish I could travel through books!  And meet the characters I most admire!"  Desmond put a hand to his chin, "Maybe you can." Greta's face showed so much excitement, "I can?!?" "Do you believe,Greta?" Greta nodded,"I do! I do!" "Very well, bring me a book, one that you would love to be in!" Greta skipped to the other side of her room to find a book she dearly admired. Desmond took the book, "To the Ends of the Earth," Desmond gave a curios look, "I've never been in this book." The boy held out his hand, "Are you ready?" Greta, reluctant at first, took his hand and let out a nervous "I'm ready." On the count of three, they jumped into the  book and with that they were gone.
