How did it end up like this? Life was going so well until Hitoshi and his family were forced into this internment camp all because of their nationality. It all started when the Japanese attacked Pearl Harbor, now here they are.
Hitoshi Ichijou was born in America but his parents were immigrants from Japan. He lived in California with his parents and four brothers, two older and two younger. When the Japanese attacked Pearl Harbor, the family was forced from their home and sent to this camp in Arizona with other Japanese-Americans.
To try and escape living here, Hitoshi's oldest brother enlisted in the army and might get sent off to war. Hitoshi is not sure exactly what he's going to do but he might think about going off into the army as well, he may be Japanese but America is his home and he would do anything to defend his home no matter what.

Hitoshi finally made up his mind and decided to join the army. His family wasn't too thrilled about it, thinking Hitoshi should be proud of his Japanese heritage, but he loved this country and he'd do anything to defend it, even if it means fighting guys the same nationality as him. He chose to enlist instead of waiting to be drafted just to get it over with and so Hitoshididn't have to wait so long.

After two months, Hitoshi finished basic training and was now part of the U.S. Army, he knew that he'd most likely be sent off to war but he knows that it will be for a good cause, his family finally let him join just as long as he didn't bring shame to the family which he promised he wouldn't. When he met with his commanding officer at the camp, he told Hitoshi that he would be sent to Oakland to board a train for Camo McCoy, Wisconsin along with other Japanese-Americans.
