"What do you mean, he's gone?!"

"He's — he has escaped." A solemn, deep voice mutters with a crack.

My eyes flash open, and my body rumbles with the energy of silenced adrenaline. I feel like I should be fighting, or rebelling, or running at least. Something's not right.

An animalistic growl rumbles through the room, "Well let's put it this way: if he's not back before the ceremony, you'll be in his place." It hits my ears like a shrill and jolts me back to reality.

"Yes, ma'am."

I try to move my arms, but they're frozen in place. The sleeves of a white jumpsuit I seem to wear are frosted over. Am I in a glass pod? A freezing glass pod?

I hadn't noticed before, but it was literally freezing. Ice encased the pod and my breath floated against the window like a pale ghost before leaving it's condensation mark. I tried to move my head to get a better look but the frozen hair held me back. White lights flashed in my vision...

"Don't just stand there - get it done!"

My head aches; a sharp pain at the back. Is that from the noise or was it there when I woke up? I hadn't noticed. I can't remember.

I can't remember anything. My brain feels like a burning fire.  All of my memories are hazy. Where am I? How did I get here? Who do the voices belong to? Why am I freezing? And...

Who am I?

The thought made me grow cold... and not just because I was in a human-sized freezer.
