The sound of my shoes were the only music i am hearing as i walk in the dark sidewalk of this quiet city.Sleepy and exhausted, I still managed to cross the road and watch out for people that i might bump on. This is the never-ending routine of my life.
The wind blew my hair as I pass by a group of trees planted near the gates of the apartment I call home. There are several people living there but I never met a single one.
10th floor is where my unit is located. It's small and quiet. Just perfect for someone like me. Living here for a day might drive me insane, but it's a good thing that i spend most of my hours at work.
The noise of the snoring guard welcomed me as i enter the lobby. This is what he usually does to protect the whole apartment.
I went to the right side to go to the elevators. I gently pushed the button pointing up and observed my reflection on the rusty doors of the elevator.
I suddenly took a glimpse of the flickering lights above me then the elevator bell rang immediately.
Sounds of creaking metals filled my ears as the doors of the elevator opened. I immediately walked in to the empty space and pressed the 10th floor.
I leaned my head and observed the numbers written on every button. I quickly stood up straight because the 6th floor button lit up thrice.
Someone will also go up too.
The elevator slowly reduced its speed as it suddenly stops on the 6th floor.
The rusty doors opened and revealed a view of a flickering light and a man walking towards the elevator.
The man holding a rolled newspaper entered slowly with a smile. I smiled back as he looked at me.
My handkerchief then fell out of my hand so he picked it up for me.
His eyes turned to me as he slowly stood up to give it to me.
"Thank you..." I awkwardly said as i grab the handkerchief on his hand.
It felt weird as our skin slightly touched but it faded as he smiles back as an answer.
As the elevator rises up, so does the fear i am feeling right now since he's been staring at me this whole time.
The elevator bell rang and i was about to walk out but he walked out first and pointed at where the current floor number is located.
I looked at it and it's in the 13th floor.
My eyes turned back to him as he opens his lips and says;
"See you tomorrow..."
Shivers went down my spine as the door between us closes. I was shaking so bad so i clinged tightly at my bag and closed my eyes to prevent myself from tearing up.
My heartbeat hammered like crazy as the elevator goes down now. I hear breathing and whispers beside me but i know that no one is around.
I covered my ears but the whispers still won't stop so as my tears.
The elevator rang as it is now on the 10th floor. I immediately ran out the elevator and went to my unit.
The next day, I found out that the man killed himself...
And I am next...
