Eight

Taehyung didn't even hesitate to let me in. He saw me standing there, at the bottom of his steps with tears streaming down my face, and he immediately let me in.

Tae was in the middle of making dinner, and thank god he didn't live with Jimin anymore. The smell of kimchi, spices, and boiling noodles filled the room. It smelled so nice that I thought I could sleep.

"Kimchi noodles?" I questioned, shyly following him into the kitchen. I set my bag down next to my seat and pulled myself up onto the seat around the marble countertop. The seats were so high that even my legs dangled off of the floor, but I loved the kitchen area.

"Yup. You're lucky that I haven't started eating yet. I made enough for about six or seven bowls, since I was contemplating inviting Jin, Namjoon, and Ji-" I stopped him right there, nearly falling out of my seat.

"Please don't invite Jimin, I won't be able to take it!" I blurted out, pressing my palms down against the table top. Taehyung nearly spilled the bowls that he was turning around to place on the table.

"Jungkook, I can't just... uninvite Jimin. Please, all they're staying here for is dinner. It won't be that bad if it's just for this once," Tae soothed, setting down the bowls carefully before he turned around to put three more bowls down.

"Okay.." I trailed off, huffing softly and flinching as the doorbell rang. Taehyung gave me a warm, boxy smile and then went to answer it. I darted to put my bag outside of the door leading to Taehyung's room, and when I came back all three of the new arrivals were beginning to settle in and seat themselves down. None of them took my seat, thankfully, and I was at the end of the table so that I didn't really have to sit next to anyone. There were only six seats, however, and the table was rectangular. I had to sit across from Jimin, with Namjoon by my side and Taehyung on my other side, and Jin between Namjoon and Jimin.

"Jungkookie!" Namjoon exclaimed, his eyes lighting up as he saw me sit down. Jimin seemed slightly disgusted when he saw me, and Jin seemed just as happy as Namjoon.

"Taehyung, you never told us that you invited the maknae to dinner," Jimin said, forcing a slight smile. I'm sure everyone could feel the tension between us and it made everything awkward for a moment. I remained silent, however, and finally Taehyung decided that we should eat.

"So, Jungkookie, how are things?" Jin asked, chewing his food once he finished speaking. I kind of played with my noodles and poked at the kimchi with my chopsticks.

"It's fine," I answered simply, not really wanting to talk about everything.

"How are things with you and Yoongi?" Jimin pried, and I knew that he was trying to get to me.

"I decided, actually," I paused to give him a warm smile, "that I should leave you two to enjoy your relationship third-wheel free." Everyone looked up, Taehyung stopping mid-noodle-slurping and Namjoon and Jin stopping in the middle of chewing.

Namjoon choked slightly, and Jimin started laughing a bit, tilting his head back and leaving his palms on the table. Namjoon managed to swallow his food.

"Jimin, you're with Yoongi?" Namjoon questioned, and everyone but Taehyung looked at Jimin. I could feel Taehyung staring at me, and now he could understand why I couldn't handle being around Jimin tonight. I could feel his pity, but that's not at all what I wanted. I wanted to leave.

"Yes," he proudly announced and cleared his throat. You see, this was the thing: everyone knew about how I felt for Yoongi except for Jimin. Jimin was so caught up in his own feelings for Suga hyung that he couldn't notice mine; everyone else didn't even have to ask.

"Oh, Jungkookie, I see you didn't bring that beloved stuffed cat this time," Jimin said, tilting his head and giving me a fake smile. His eyes said it all. Taehyung, Jin, and Namjoon all looked at each other as I let my head hang in shame for a moment. When I looked up, I swung my bowl in just the right angle that the contents of it flew and landed all over Jimin.
