Hermione's POV

It was a wet, August afternoon, and I was sitting inside on my sofa reading Alice in Wonderland for the fifth time. I had a sudden craving for a cookie and went to the kitchen to fetch one. I had just returned from the kitchen, settled down and picked up my book again when I heard a screeching sound coming from outside the window.

I looked up and saw a non-descript Hogwarts owl holding a familiar letter with the Hogwarts crest upon it. Sighing, I rose again and walked over the the window. I yanked the window open and held out my arm to the owl, who stepped onto it. I shut the window and took the owl into the kitchen, to give him some water and owl pellets before he had to return to Hogwarts. Whilst the owl ate its fill, I opened my letter. It read:

Dear Miss Granger,

You have been invited to return to Hogwarts school of Witchcraft and Wizardry to retake your seventh year, along the with the rest of your class mates and a select few from the year below you.

The Minister of Magic has seen fit to pass a new law that concerns all young witches and wizards over or at the age of 17. You will be given more information upon your arrival. As a consequence of this new law, we have seen fit to add a new class to your timetable this year. Don't worry, all will be explained when you arrive.

Yours sincerely,

Professor McGonagall, Headmistress.

'So. A new law,' I thought. 'I wonder if Harry and Ron know.' Suddenly, I gasped. The letter had said only a select few from the year below would be joining us. What if Ginny hadn't made the cut?

I dropped the letter, grabbed my cloak and spun on the spot, apparating to the Burrow. "Ginny, Ginny!' I shouted.

'Hermione!' Ginny squealed.

'Have you got your Hogwarts letter? Are you coming back with us this year?' I asked, frantically scanning the room for the telltale letter.

'Hermione, calm down. We got the letters this morning. I have been accepted back into Hogwarts for my seventh year along with Harry and Ron, who are upstairs by the way.'

'That's fantastic! I wonder what this new law is about though.' I mused.

Ginny's POV

'I don't know,' I said, beckoning to Hermione to follow me. 'Perhaps it has something to do with the aftermath of the war. Maybe we have to do something to help rebuild the wizarding community?'

'I'm not sure, perhaps the boys will have better ideas about what's going on.' Hermione said, pushing open the door to my room. "Harry, Ron, do you have any ideas about what's going on with this new law?' she says.

'Aside from the fact that it has got something to do with witches and wizards over or at the age of 17, no,' said Harry.

Hermione sighed and looked at her watch. 'Merlin's beard! Is it really 6 already? I have to go!' She gave us all a wave before spinning and apparition back to her apartment.

We all sat in silence for a while, until mum called us down for tea.

*Time skip to August 30th.*

Ginny clomped down the stars, rubbing her eyes, on her way to breakfast. 'Oh, Ginny dear. So nice of you to join us,' her mother said.

'Sorry, mum. I was just really tired.' Ginny yawned.

'Well, you'll have to eat quickly, we're leaving in 20 minutes...'

'Wait, what? Leave to go to where?'

'Diagon Alley of course! You need your new books for school and you leave in 2 days.' Mrs Weasley replied. 'We are meeting Hermione at Gringotts at 10, so you will have to hurry.'

At this, Ginny bolted down her breakfast, raced upstairs to get dressed and the next thing she knew, she was apparating into Diagon Alley.
