"I don't care if you don't like it, I'm wearing it!" Sarah shouted.

She was having an argument with her guardian, Jim, the officer who drove her away from the woods.

"It's inappropriate and I don't want you wearing it! Go change your clothes now!" Jim shouted back.

"You can't tell me what to do. You're not my father." Sarah protested.

"You're right. I'm not your father. I'm not dad material, but I can say that I love and care for you just as much as a father would. Who has to put dinner on your plate everyday? Who has to make sure that you get to school safely? And who is the one who bought you these clothes in the first place?" He pointed at Sarah's outfit.
"I may not be your father, but at least I try my God damn best to make sure that you finish school and grow as a strong and independent woman. I took you in because when I looked at you I saw a scared little girl, and I made a promise to myself that I would make sure that nothing happens to her and that I would always protect her... Go change into something less revealing... Please."

Sarah went upstairs to her room and put on clothes that she felt more comfortable wearing. Black sweater, black skinny jeans and black converse. She loosened the ponytail that she was wearing and her chocolate chip coloured hair flowed down her shoulders and stopped above her breasts.

She opened the draw which stood next to her bed and put on the necklace her mother gave her before she died. She remembered that awful night.

"Run Sarah..." She could still hear her mother's voice. Sometimes she heard her mother's screams as well. She would always wake up in the middle of the night after dreaming about that dreadful night.

The necklace made her ocean blue eyes stand out, Sarah then put on scarlet coloured lip gloss to add a little colour to what she was wearing. Sarah walked downstairs where Jim waited.

"That's much better... Thank you." He said.

"I'm sorry... For what I said earlier." Sarah apologized.

"It's okay. I understand."

They walked to the garage and got in Jim's brand new car: Ford Mustang - 'black'. As usual Sarah always sat in front in the passenger seat. Jim even used to let her drive, but he decided not to do that anymore because Sarah always got carried away and started speeding.

After Jim dropped her off at school, Sarah would always hug him goodbye and watch him drive off on his way to work. This was the tough part, being at school where everyone treated you as an outsider. Being the only orphan makes it tough to move on and make some friends.

After Sarah went to her locker and took out a few books, the bell rang and it was time for her and the rest of the students to get to class. It started with the usual where the teacher would always greet the class, but this time there was a new student standing in front next to the teacher.

"Class this is Logan Solomon, he and his family just moved to NY. Mr Solomon why don't you take a seat over there." He pointed at a desk next to Sarah, on her right.

Sarah slowly looked up as the boy sat next to her. She then grabbed her pen and pretended to write.

Time flew by fast and it was now recess. All the students went to the lunch room and ordered what they want. However, Sarah didn't order anything. She quietly sat at a table where she knew no one else would sit. She then got bored and started drawing the symbol on her necklace with a black pen.

"Impressive." Said a voice in front of her.

She looked up to see who it was and to her surprise, it was Logan.

"You know there's an art club, you should think of join -"
"I know there's an art club." Sarah interrupted. "And I'm not planning on joining."

"Right... Do you mind if I sit down?"

"Whatever. There's no one else sitting there anyway." She sighed.

"And why's that?" Logan asked as he sat down in front of her.

"I prefer to keep my distance from those around me. Let's just say that I don't like people... They end up turning into monsters, some don't, but if you get too attached you end up losing 'em."

"You lost your parents?"

"Look I don't know who you are, but the rest of the people in this room wouldn't even bother speaking to me so if I were you I would do the same and just get up and walk away. NOW."

"Right."

He got up and walked away, and didn't bother turning around. Sarah put her pen in the book, closed it and walked stormed of the cafeteria. She went into the bathroom and locked the door. Sarah stared into the mirror above the basin.

She went on her knees, covered her face with her hands and started crying. She took off the necklace and held it in her hands, as she did so, a tear fell on the necklace. Sarah dropped the necklace once it started glowing. She put it back on once it stopped and saw tiny crystals on her hand.

"What the fuck just happened?"
