"Wait, I saw Bubba Wallace playing the drums and I kinda know how to play it", said Noah "It's kinda easy you just bang them sticks and go like" He made awful drum noises.

"What about Guitar, Bass and Piano?" asked Todd "Don't we need to play those too?"

"No man, boy bands don't play instruments" Harrison spoke "They just sing and look good."

"I know a thing or two about looking good, that is no problemo" said Noah while sitting back on a chair and crossing his arms.

"Idiot" I said "That's actually hard work. We can probably use a computer software to make our song's beats but you gotta make sure you sing. And in tune."

Figuring we had a lot of work to do, we each pulled our laptops and tried to be productive. Except Noah wasn't in the mood. While Harrison tried to come up with a cool logo for the band, Todd pulled up a tutorial that taught beginners how to sing, and I found an app that could make several nice beats, which we could use to replace instruments, Noah played Drake.

"Passionate from miles away, passive with the things you say" he danced "Passionfruit is THE SHIT man"

"Turn that shit off man, we're trying to take things serious" Todd yelled. He started to say something but was interrupted mid-sentence by Harrison tackling Noah like he didn't weigh less than 150.

"Kendrick is better anyway." he said. And Noah wasn't even mad. Everybody knows Kendrick is better.

"Okay guys, check this out" Todd called  us over to his side of the table "This should be able to help us sing"

"Seems like we're in choir class" said Harrison "When christmas comes we can dress up as elves and sing for all those screaming kids at the mall"

He played the video. A man started to teach them how to contract your belly muscles so your voice sounds better or something like that, he also did some vocal warmups and the three of them repeated everything. I tried not to make fun of them this time.

They actually didn't sound that bad. Just extremely tone deaf. Their voices didn't have much range unless you put them together. They sounded like old Doo-wop singers, except they didn't know how to complement each other's singing ability.

"That wasn't bad at all" I said after they were done with the tutorial "We just need to find a genre that fits your vocal abilities, so we can make it your comfort zone."

"Definitely not pop" said Harrison

"Nor country" said Todd

"What about dubstep?" asked Noah

"You're a fucking moron" Todd fired back "Dubstep is just a beat with some random lyrics"

"So? That's club music, we could play there" replied Noah

"Except we're not even 20 yet"
I said "I think it's best if we stick to something like the 1975, it's not pop but it's also not rock, we can make unique catchy beats and sing about whatever we want."

Harrison googled them. "Indie?" he asked. "That kinda sounds like that emo music teens like."

"Play one of their songs man" suggested Todd

He played a song called Robbers. It had this vibe that reminds you of summer afternoons with your best friends or the girl you're into, when you feel like doing dumb things to impress them, like dumb dares or sitting in a park in the middle of the night for no apparent reason while looking at the sky. It put the four of us in the mood. We enjoyed it.

"Maybe we should do something like that" suggested Noah "It sounds like something that people from all ages can enjoy. And maybe they can play it at the races someday."

We all agreed. For them, the idea of balancing NASCAR and another passion sounded more real than ever. They felt it could work. And even if it didn't they would make sure they had a good time doing it while it lasted. Harrison laughed at something and went upstairs to get us some snacks. Noah was playing Call of Duty and Todd was sitting next to me doing something on his computer. Everything felt funny, and I guess all of us were asking ourselves "What if this works?" and we couldn't wait to get the answer.

Harrison came back after a few minutes. His dad wanted to hear about the band, and although we all thought he'd throw a fit, he was surprisingly cool about it. Guess no one believed we would make it.
