Star stare hopelessly at the Mage Tower in front of her. She knew it was inevitable to dream against it, but still she hoped she wouldn't have to go.
Why her? Why no someone else?
In all, how could she be that special to where she would have to move, not only towns but lands away from home to a Tower in the middle of nowhere.
"Hey, wait up!" A voice called behind her, the sound of boots hitting the dirt covered barren, growing ever so closer to her.
Star briefly slowed her pace for her flaming blue haired companion to follow.
"Boy, am I out of shape." He heaves, clearly out of breathe. He places a tender hand on her shoulder for support as they continued their journey to the enchanting Tower in front of them.
"So..." He states walking in sequence beside her.
"Have you thought about what it's going to be like? You know, away from the slums of Arona?"
To be honest, Star hadn't. She was too preoccupied in pretending she didn't have to. But, after burning half of her village while defending it from an elite group of raiders, she knew there was no avoiding it. She had to go. She could feel the magic crawling under her skin. She could feel the freedom of its release on her finger tips. And yet, she always buried inside of her, hiding it away so no one could see it. Until now.
"Not really." She replied. He seemed pleased with the answer and it remained silent for the rest of the trip.
On the arrival of The Mage Tower, it look alluring and extraordinary. She could practically feel it pulsing with magic. Despite the sandy terrian surrounding them, the Tower, tall and proud, sprouted lush greenery around it. A soft blue mist hung in the air around, almost like it was being released from the Tower itself. As for the Tower, the old cobble stone walls were stretch high in the sky above, and ended in a pointed cone like shape. The roof was decorated with royal blue shingles, and the exterior, speckled with bright and florescent flowers.
They followed the path to the gothic entrance, not a peep between them.
Neither of them dared to say a word. They both could feel the fear and anxiety swelling up inside of them. But, neither showed any fear of any kind as they stepped in unison, up the old brick stairs.
Star knew that this would be her first step into her knew life. And all the self-doubt and uncertainty she had before seem to wash away. A sense of courage and enpowerment eloped her.
She was ready.
She was prepared.
She could save her village, be the protecter they see desperately needed.
But, as they pushed open the heavy iron doors to the Tower, she felt afraid. Something felt off and wrong despite the comforting aura.
And with a blast of cold air and the loud metal opening of the rusted door, revealed their new life and the first real challenge.
