JOAN and I loved our apartment. It was perfect. Three small rooms and a kitchen, plus a bathroom. It wasn't very expensive, either. Our neighbors were great too, especially the one above us. Mr. Lucas would help us with any plumbing technicalities that us poor females couldn't, without annoyance.
Unfortunately, he moved two weeks after Joan and I met Bryan and Mr. High-And-Mighty pants at the book store.
It had been obvious Joan was thinking about the former. It was also apparent that they clicked, but I needed to get to know him more before I'd let him waltz away with my sister.
I glanced up from my book to Joan's ringing phone on the table beside me. I was going to let her know, but I knew she'd be pouncing on it in no time.
I soon heard the supporting footsteps of my sister come thumping into the kitchen.
"Who is it?" I asked, not looking up from my book.
When there was no answer I tilted my head up. My sister was grinning down at her phone.
I smirked. "What are you going to wear?"
Joan ran a hand through her hair. She turned to me and said, "I have no idea."
"Do you need help?"
She nodded.
I got up with a grunt and followed her to her room.
"Where are you two going?" I questioned as we stood in front of Joan's clothes.
"Coffee," she told me. "We're getting coffee."
I hear wedding bells!
I looked at the closet and pretended to only be thinking of the clothes.
After a few moments of silence, Joan concluded, "I'll just wear my grey sweater."
Great choice. Couldn't have chosen better.
A sigh. "No, that's no good. I'll do the blue dress."
Even better.
"Is that weird, wearing a dress to coffee?"
I gave a shrug. "How much did it cost you? Was it from a fancy store?"
She shook her head. "I made it."
Hey, it could be a good conversation starter.
"No, it looks sloppy."
Fighting the urge to suggest, "Hey, why not go naked? If he's wants to get to know you might as well know you and not your clothes!" I only rolled my eyes.
"And my hair! What am I going to do? I'm so not prepared!"
I grinned and teased, "Should I call an ambulence?"
I don't think she was paying any attention to me, though. When I turned to her she had her eyes opened wide at her closet.
"The jacket," I said a little louder.
"Hmm?" She blinked.
"The leather jacket and some jeans. You'll look hot."
The girl bit her lip and turned back to the clothes. "Is it too forward?"
I waved my hand. "Of course it's not. You're crazy."
She took a moment before sighing. "Alright. I'll do it."
"Woo hoo!" I laughed, jumping off of her bed. "Joanie's got a da-ate! Joanie's got a da-ate!"
"Heck yeah, I do!" she exclaimed, getting up to dance around with me.
I was happy for my sister, I really was. I, however, was unsure of this Bryan guy. Joan was such a loving person, there had been a few incidents of her putting too much trust into some undeserving hands. I just never wanted to see her hurt.

Wowza! I haven't touched this story in quite some time. I think I'll be continuing it, though. So, stay tuned!
