Theo wakes up to the sound of his phone alarm going off. He fumbles around in the sheets of the bed looking for it. He finally finds it and turns the the alarm off. The clock on his phone reads 10 o'clock just like it should.
Theo roll over on the bed and sits on the edge of it. He has high hopes in finding something relating to the Mothman.
Theo’s heart races as the thought of finding something brews in his mind. He wished he had a friend to go with him to investigate, but the only person in these parts that he knows is Charles, who already declined the adventure.
Theo grabs his flashlight out of his suit case and then grabs his keys off a nearby dresser. He makes sure he has his phone in his pocket and makes sure he has a hoodie on before exiting the front door.
Cranking up the car he pulls out his phone. “Siri get me the address to Janson Cemetery.” He tells his phone. After a couple of seconds he has the address. “Here goes nothing.” He tell himself as he pulls out the dark driveway and into the dark night.
After a ten minute drive he parks a couple of blocks away from the cemetery so he doesn't cause too much attention to himself. He steps out and closes his door softly. He looks around to make sure no one sees him and after deciding that the coast is clear he begins walking toward the high gates of the cemetery.
He turns on his flashlight and shines it on the gate. Looking at the top of it he realizes it's way more taller than he imagined. These gates are at the least ten feet high… and they have barb wire all over the top to stop people from getting in… or is it to stop something from getting out?
“That's way to much to climb.” He says. He will have to find another way in. He pulls out his phone and texts Charles.
“Hey… are there any ways into Janson Cemetery besides climbing? These gates are impossible.”
He sends the message and waits. Come on he thought to himself. It will be such a disappointment if his only lead on the Mothman legend is in a impenetrable area.
After about five minutes of waiting on a reply he gives up. Charles is probably already asleep. Theo let's out a disappointing sigh and begins his walk back to the car when his phone dings. Quickly he looks at it hoping it's Charles. And luckily it was!
“There's gates that open towards the back for people who are visiting. i imagine they are locked. But if you find a key you could get in.”
“Thanks.” Theo quickly replies and turns his phone back on silent. He walks the outside of the gates but being sure to stay hidden by the shadows of nearby trees.
Reaching the back gate he goes to it and looks at the lock. Charles was right the gate was locked and locked very tightly. A strong chain is wrapped around the gate with a single secure lock holding the gate shut. “Ah, just my luck.”
Not wasting time he searches the area for a spare key. He looks under a nearby large rock. He checked under the mat in front of the gate and even the under a loose pavement square, but he comes up with no key. He sits in front of the gate and thinks hard. Where else would there be a key? Then it hits him. He knows where he can find a key… on a security guard.
That seems risky, but Theo didn't came all the way to Virginia to be stopped by a locked gate. And to his luck here comes a guard now. He saw the guard's flashlight first. So he has a few moments to figure out what to do.
The thought of tell the guard the truth crossed his mind, but quickly exited it. The guard would just laugh at him and send him packing. So he decides to take the keys from the guard.
As the guard comes closer to the back gate Theo steps out from the shadows of the trees and purposely stumbles in front of the guard.
“He man! You can't be here!” The guard shouts as he shines his light at Theo.
“Look man.” Theo says sloppily as he gets to close to the guard. “I love you.” He says as if he's drunk. He pokes the guard in the nose and laughs. “Anyway why are you so… *hiccup* loud.”
“Go home man.” The guard says. “Let me walk you home. Do you leave near here, because I don't see a car anywhere.”
“Shhhhh.” Theo says putting his finger on the lips of the guard. “Come here I need to tell you a secret.”
The guard leans in to hear the secret, but instead gets a fist to the jaw knocking him out cold onto the ground.
Theo reaches down and talks the keychain off the belt of the guard. Job well done he thought to himself. He finds himself having fun breaking into this place. He takes the keys and keeps trying different ones on the ring until one opens the lock.
The gate squeaks as it opens slowly. Theo puts the key ring on his belt loop and takes out his flashlight before walking into the cemetery. He flashes his light around as he walks past endless waves of tombstones.
He keeps walking until a certain tombstone catches his eye.
It had what looks like a symbol on it and nothing else. The symbol looked like the outline of a moth. A smile crosses his face. There's no way this tombstone has nothing to do with the Mothman. He goes around the tomb looking for anything interesting, but finds nothing out of the ordinary.
“That can't be all” He thought to himself. After inspecting every inch he grows frustrated with the dead end. He let's out a rather loud expression of anger as he shakes the tombstone with the moth on it.
“There he is!” Theo hears a man yell from a distance. He turns to the back gate and sees four rays of lights running his way. Oh he's really in trouble now. There's now way out of this one.
Before he know it he is surrounded on all sides by guards. “What are you doing here?” The one he knocked out a while ago asks him.
“It's hard to explain. “
“Explain it to the judge.” The guard says as he slaps cuffs on Theo. “You are under arrest for trespassing.” Dread feels Theo's heart as he drops his flashlight. Now he will go to jail and never have the success of a good book. As the guards walk him away the ground begins to shake as if a mini earthquake just hit.
All five of them try to keep their balance and the shake tries to throw them onto the ground. Then the ground stops moving completely.
“Um… Guys…” One of the other guys say. “Look…”
Everyone looks at the tombstone and it begins cracking into pieces. And out of those pieces came a giant black speeding object too fast to recognize what it is.
“What was that?” One of them says in fear.
“Let's get the hell out of here!” Another one says as the group begins running to the exit. Just before they reach the gate the giant object lands in front of them blocking the gate. All the guards shine their lights at it and everyone cowards at what is seen.
A huge 7 foot tall thing stands in front of them. It's dirty and has brownish tan little hairs all over it's disgusting body. It stares at them with it's evil red bug-like eyes.
It let's out a blood curling screech as it spreads it's 10 foot wings and begins flying right at them with no mercy in its eyes.
