(Previously: Derek is tracking the Omega, and runs into him and Scott as the Omega gets caught in a hunters trap. Derek barely gets Scott to a safe distance before the hunters arrive and Gerard declares war on all werewolves. Derek goes home and Isaac rushes in with news of his father’s death. Derek has a bad dream involving Kristin and Gerard. Gerard kills her before Derek can save her. Isaac is taken into police custody involving his father’s death, and Derek enlists help from Scott to free Isaac before the full moon ascends in the sky.)
By the time we get to Isaac’s house the sun has set and the moon is close to reaching its peak. Time sure does fly when you are trying to convince a person to help you get your werewolf pack member out of jail before he shifts and kills all the officers in the station.
“If Isaac didn’t kill his father than who did?” Scott asks as we enter the dark house with our flash lights on and pointed.
“I don’t know yet,” I shrug slightly before we start walking through Isaac’s house, using the flash lights to help lead the way.
Luckily the house isn’t overly cluttered and the furniture is kept to a minimum with couches, a recliner, coffee table and flat screen T.V of course the basement is a completely different story.
“Well then how do you know he is telling the truth?” Scott asks.
“Because I trust my senses, and it’s the combination of them. Not just your sense of smell,” I have to hold in the smirk as I recall Scott literally tackling most of his team during practice before sniffing them- trying to figure out who the new werewolf is.
If Scott had of trusted his other senses, he would’ve figured it out a lot quicker. Werewolves don’t just have enhanced hearing, sharp teeth and claws, and we can do more than just take away pain from both people and animals. Scott will learn it all with time. Luckily I haven’t had to take away anyone’s pain in a very long time, sometimes it can be very unpleasant.
“You saw the Lacrosse thing today?” Scott asks shamefully.
“Yeah.”
“Did it look that bad?”
“Yeah,” I lean my hand on Scott’s shoulder and start steering him in the right direction down the hallway and towards the basement door.
“You want to learn? Let’s start now,” I open the door and there’s a slight creek that sounds like it belongs in a horror movie.
I guess my life can be a horror movie at times but better written with a more handsome protagonist.
You forgot to mention better actors. My wolf speaks up.
I think you mean actor.
Oh please. I can practically feel him rolling his eyes.
“What’s down there?” Scott asks as he starts descending the stairs one by one.
“Motive,” I reply not bothering to raise my voice. I don’t need to.
“And what am I looking for?” Scott reaches the linoleum floor.
“Follow your senses,” I reply and Scott starts walking around the room looking at all the scattered junk.
“What happened down here?”
“The kind of thing that leaves an impression.”
Scott starts tracing his fingers over the old toys which are sitting on a cupboard covered with a sheet, and stops once he reaches the bulky freezer. He doesn’t seem to hear me coming and I see his body jump as I bring the flashlight from my sight and aim it at him as I reach his side. He can feel it, the emotions tied to the memories of the past.
“Open it,” I instruct as Scott clutches the unlocked padlock and removes it before he opens the freezer.
I can feel Mr Lahey’s rage, and Isaac’s crushing fear. It’s not like the connection I have with Kristin. I should be able to feel her emotions near or far whenever I focus. Outside of the bond I can sense emotions others have experienced when I’m near the place they were, and Isaac was forced to spend a lot of time locked up here. I can also feel Isaac’s panic and helplessness, almost smell it and hear it.
The scratch marks are visible, some are even caked with blood barely two weeks old. I can smell it.
“This is why he said yes to you.”
“Everyone wants power.”
“If we help you then you have to stop. You can’t just go around turning people into werewolves.”
“I can if they’re willing.”
He’s boring me now. We don’t need him, let’s just do it on our own.
Yeah because that’ll work. I hold in the eye roll.
“Did you tell Isaac about the Argents? About being hunted?”
Of course I did.
“Yes.”
“Then he’s an idiot,” Scott snaps.
“And you’re an idiot for dating Argent’s daughter,” I reply and Scott rolls his eyes. I’m starting to sound like a broken record.
“How long do you think it’s gonna take for them to find out about you and Allison? You saw what happens to an Omega. With me you learn how to use all of your senses. With me you learn control, even on a full moon,” I grab Scott’s hand and shine it under the moonlight sneaking through the small glass window, and his nails instantly begin to shift into claws.
“If I’m with you I lose her.”
“You’re gonna lose her anyway. You know that,” I start to walk away.
“Wait!” Scott stops me, and I turn on my heels and face him, “I’m not part of your pack but I want him out. He’s my responsibility too,” Scott adds.
“Why because he’s one of us?” I ask.
Scott’s hero complex isn’t going to do him any good. I just hope he won’t have to learn the hard way.
“Because he’s innocent,” Scott replies.
