Alexander had never once felt on attraction to someone or something other than his work. It's what kept him sane for so many years leading up to his acceptance to Kings College the year before. Even though Alexander had come from a poor town and an orphanage, he never stopped writing, trying to escape the only life he had ever known. He knew what it felt like to have lost every important thing in his life and watch it fall to shit, causing him to never want to get close to anything other than the computer that he lived his life on. Alexanders world was nothing but writing, coffee, and silently staring at groups of people who always seemed to smile. People who would never glance at him, but it had grown into a habit of his. Imagining himself as one of those happy faces in a crowd of nothing but joy. But in the meantime, he would do the only thing that made him feel connected to the world.

"Alex! How have you been?" Peggy shouted as she watched Alexander walk into the coffee shop.

"Fine, I just need something to keep me from going crazy before the first day." Alex smiled.

Peggy had been the only person who talked to him when he arrived in New York City. She was a small girl, but Alexander never seemed to notice due to her confidence. Peggy was almost the complete opposite of Alexander, but she confided herself in him and that's more than Alexander could ask for. She was the only person Alexander trusted.

"I can't believe it's already going be your second year at Kings College and you're still buying your morning coffee at this dump," she chuckled.

"It's my daily dose of human interaction, and besides the other coffee shops don't have you working for them." they both laughed. "Wanna sit down with me by the window and drink our thoughts Pegs?" Alexander said with a slight smile pointing to the booth he had sat at every day for the past year.

"Sure, my shift is going to be done in a few minutes"

With that, he grabbed his coffee and made his way to the booth. He had shared many memories sitting here with Peggy. It was a small wooden one next to a huge glass window. It was one of the few things Alexander found beautiful. Just a few months ago he had convinced Peggy to ask out this girl named Maria who she had talked about for weeks. He always teased the fact that he was the reason she had a relationship in the first place, but Peggy always teased back with "Im the reason you have straight A's." Even though she didn't attend kings college just yet because her first year was set to start next year, she helped Alexander keep his thoughts straight after days of no sleep. Alexander liked to see what Peggy's exciting life came to next, and she loved to hear his ideas and plans for the year. It was the best way for Alexander to start any morning.

Just as Alexander was about to get lost in his thought, Peggy slide into the chair opposite of his.

"So, what are your plans for today Alex?"

"Honestly, I want to make this year different Peggy," Alexander said as a small blush formed on his cheeks.

"Oh really? So you're going to start drinking vanilla frappuccinos instead of that disgusting black coffee?" Peggy replied with a loud laugh.

"I was thinking of accepting that offer of you introducing me to your sister Eliza, but I suddenly changed my mind," Alexander said with a sly smile forming on his lips. Peggy's eyes brightened and a gasp of excitement managed to replace her words for a few moments. She suddenly lunged for Alexander almost spilling his coffee over the both of them. "You will not be disappointed! I gotta go talk to her, see you later Alex!" Peggy walked off leaving Alexander with a tiny smile on his face.

After that hug, Alexander silently drank his coffee thinking about Eliza. Eliza was one of Peggy's older sisters. He had never met Eliza in person but he often saw her walking to class. She had long black hair which she usually had down, a quiet personality, and blue earrings she wore every day. To say the least, she was beautiful, but Alexander had never been drawn to her. The reason he had accepted Peggy's offer was because he was tired of having to walk alone to class, having no one to understand him on a level he wanted to, and most importantly he was tired of never finding this thing everyone called "love."

"Maybe Eliza can change that," he thought. "Maybe it'll be the start of something new." Alexander took one last drink of his coffee, stood up and made his way to his first period. "Maybe you'll finally be content with something other than work."

"Maybe, just maybe you'll be happy this year Alex."
