Weird - (1)fate, destiny; especially : ill fortune (2)of strange or extraordinary character

Angelica was intrigued to learn that some people associated the word 'weird' with strange things. It meant fate! Surely they did not think fate was something strange! After all, everyone had their life set out in front of them, did they not? All that mattered was they tried to do their best to make the best of their situation.

Her sister did not agree with her; Eliza preferred to not think of such inane things and instead focus on more prudent matters. For instance, the matter of her impending marriage. Which was always a delightful topic for her. Clearly.

She met her future brother-in-law's best friend. John Laurens. He was willing to talk with her on such inane things; in fact, he was more than willing to offer her an ear to talk to when everything became too oppressive, too much for her to handle. It was an amazing way to relieve herself of all the stress she'd been bearing the moment she learned of the Hamilton-Schuyler wedding.

After all, her sister was finally having everything fall into place, and Angelica was about to be left behind. Like a discarded toy the moment one noticed the shining jewels in the distance.

All she had ever wanted was to have a family that stuck together; in the end, it was that very desire that led to the fractured family she was confronted with. Her father did not care much for his daughter that refused to marry any suitor that seemed even mildly respectable, and her sisters were too absorbed in their new families to spare a moment for their trailing sister. Her brother was too consumed with his own affairs to notice that his sister was feeling mildly lost. The family that had once stood side by side in a war was no more. At least on her part.

Angelica thought it was a fair trade, though; her family got success and happiness, and she got a brain that would give her more than enough company for the rest of the time she lived.

Except, there was always something missing, something she could never quite place. What was it? There was an emptiness that surrounded her, constant and oppressing and all too much for her to handle.

Shining eyes flickered at her vision, but whenever she tried to look further, all she could see was a sort of abrupt stop before she was left reeling.

Maybe her emptiness was fate, Angelica hypothesized. She was the only one who could handle and debate what it meant, so of course all the 'weirdness' in her life could be attributed to the weird.
