"His mother won't answer her phone!" Josie tossed her cellphone across the room, "I cannot find his, either." if she had an outdated cellphone number for his mother he would have one. Even though he never spoke to his mother she would send a Christmas card with any important updates.
At this point she had even sent out a message to the woman on Facebook. The way the messenger worked on Facebook she could very well not see it for months or years. She knew they weren't close but he should have blood here. Someone in his family to know what was happening to him.
"It's fine, Josie, you need to sit." Abigail calmly pointed to the seat next to her. She resisted but couldn't fight. She was too tired to so she sat. She gently fell against Abigail and started to cry. "Some parents aren't worth the trouble."
"She needs to know." The words weak. Abigail ran her hand through Josie's hair allowing her a moment to cry in silence.
"Josie,he's not going to die. She doesn't need to know anything unless he's died." Abigail stated. She pressed her lips against her head. "We don't know if he would want to know, anyway. Plus, the nurses are just gushing with joy that he's healing so fast."
Josie sat up nodding, "That's true. They were worried it was an acid attack. Who would be so cruel?"
"Don't know, babe, I just don't know." She huffed. She hadn't slept much since they drove him up to the hospital. She was missing the morning at the law firm she was working for to be up here with Josie. She felt guilt taking her from work but Abigail wouldn't listen and she loved her for it. "I spoke again with the police officer. They haven't found anything else. I managed to prevent his picture or any information going on the news."
"How?"Josie brightened up. She knew he would hate to have his face in the news because of his family. His mother would love that information to use against him somehow. Even though Josie would tell he was in the hospital she'd never know the circumstances of why.
"Magic."Abigail winked, she reached over and pulled Josie closer. They were both watching him soundlessly sleep. The only noises coming from his side of the room was the machines. "I still don't understand how this will benefit him. He may be gay and if it was a hate crime concealing this..."
Todd groaned and they both jumped to their feet heading to the bed. Hiseyelids pulled gently apart then slowly back down.
"My cellphone." Todd's words made them jump. He was struggling tosit up. She quickly jumped toward him to assist. Josie stared at him,her mouth slightly open amazed at what was happening.
The last time he made any coherent noises it was something about wolvesand his eyes weren't even open. They were busy moving rapidly andscared sounds. She didn't like it. This was a pleasant change.
"You're awake! Good!" Abigail smile couldn't get any bigger. Shegripped his left hand on the other side of Josie.
"The guy – cellphone."
"Oh shit. Did he steal your cellphone?"
"No, I dropped it I think." Todd closed his eyes. "Are you okay?"
"Todd, we're fine. You're not though."
"Wolf." He sputtered his eyes closing again. The peeled skin was practically nonexistent. His pale skin was still rough to the touch but his face was healing nicely. According to the nurses the healing was slow along the lower abdomen and his legs but he'd make full recovery.
Abigail slipped out to tell them he woke up. Seconds later she came in and was followed by the nutritionist.
The nutritionist discussed what meals he could have while he was there. She explained the reason for everything and he jokingly asked for stronger apple juice. She left, awkwardly laughing at a joke she's probably heard more than anyone should in their life. It was the first time they sawthis woman and she wasn't as thrilled as they were that he was awake.
