A'lyce

As an young African American girl, you'll think I'll be living the normal life of an average sixteen years old, but when your barley making it in the world today, it can be hard.

"A'lyce honey time to get for school." The soft voice of my mother had awoken me from my slumber.

"Do I have to go?" I asked.

"Don't question me young lady, now get up before you miss your bus." She replied, with a little more tone in her voice.

"Yes ma'am," I sighed.

As a girl who gets made fun of because of her attire and the people she hangs out with, you'll hate to go to school, especially when you get bullied and picked in about it.

After washing my face and brushing my teeth, I put on my white T-shirt and skinny jeans, I then grabbed my black jacket and my black converses rushing down stairs seeing my mother already had me out a bottle of water and a granola bar.

"Have a good day at school, I love you." She smiled, blowing her cigarette smoke on the side of her mouth.

"Love you too," I hugged her, grabbing my glasses off of the counter, grabbing my book bag heading out of the door.

Remembering today was a wednesday I suddenly sighed to myself because I knew today at lunch I would have to eat by myself.

Seeing that my cousin Nevaeh was already at the bus stop before me I gave her a light smile, waving.

"Hey A'lyce, what's wrong?" She asked.

"Oh nothing, today's Wednesday, remember?"

"Oh yeah, I hate that you have to help those kids during lunch, you know today you get new people today, they switched your students with two other people?" She explained.

"Really?" I asked.

"Yes I kno- hey Victoria, hey Jordin." she smiled.

Nevaeh. Even though She's my cousin, but she can also get on my nerves sometimes. One is because she talks so much and always in someone else's buisness.

"Hey." they said.

"Hey." I waved.

"I don't want to go to school today, I even begged my madre do I have to go, her response was 'Llevate tu trasero a la escuela'." Victoria laughed.

Victoria. She's more like the sweetheart out of all of us, always smiling and cracking jokes.

"My mom woke me up late, look at my hair." Jordin whined, "Does anyone have a scrunchie?" She asked.

And then there's Jordin. The 'I'm always right' Queen. Never ask for her opinion, she'll go on and on about how, or why she's right.

"Here," I handed her my scrunchie, "Don't loose it like you did the other thirty-five times," I laughed.

They all laughed, then sighing when they seen the school bus approaching our stop.

"Well, here's the bus. I hope the Clermont sisters would leave us alone today." Nevaeh chuckled.

"Yea, your right about that one." I sighed walking on to the bus, taking my seat in the front.

"Look at them, I can't stand them." Victoria exclaimed.

"Yea," I replied, plugging my earphones in my ear tuning her out.

For some odd reason I always love R&B from the late 90's or Early 2000's. But the songs I choose always had me in my feelings most of the time.
