The birds chirped nosily, waking me up from the uncomfortable sleep. The feeling was so different. The bed was so much harder than my previous one. The atmosphere smells smokey as it seemed badly polluted. It feels unusually humid.

Last night, there was the weirdest sound I had ever heard. I could not tell what it was but it sounded like a creature making noises. Then I heard lots of flapping of wings, I guessed those were the bats. The night was creepy and chilly.

I stretched my arms and legs and yawned. Rubbing my eyes, I walked towards the window. I squinted my eyes to take a better view of the suspicious house.

The sky above the house seemed to always be gray and cloudy. There never seemed to be any time where there wasn't a single bat flying above the roof. I thought bats only come out in the night.

The sky from my house, to the creepy house opposite, turned from light sky blue to dull gray sky. The house seemed to have special abilities to only have dark skies in its area and to keep bats flying above it regardless if its day or night.

Before I take my eyes away from the house, I thought I saw something moved in the house. A shadow. A shadow that didn't look like human. Then, there was a scream.

I swallowed my saliva hard and shut my window. I draw my curtain all the way so I couldn't even catch a glimpse of what was going on in the house. What on earth is going on in there?

I quickly grabbed my shirts and went into the bathroom. Mom was in the kitchen making breakfast and dad...I could still hear him snoring. That's my dad.

After I finished cleaning up, I went to the kitchen. Mom prepared pancakes for breakfast. I dragged the chair lazily, making a screeching sound as the chair rubbed against the floor.

"Claudia, stop it! Lift up the chair." mom spun around and pointed me with the fork in her hand.

"Ok mom..." I replied and sat down. Chucking a piece of pancake into my mouth, my mind working out if I should tell mom about the house.

"Mom?" I said, with the pancakes still in my mouth as I slowly chewed them.

"Yes sweetheart?" mom replied, her butt facing me, that's because she was frying another pan of pancakes.

"Do you know about the house opposite our's?" I stuffed another piece of pancake into my mouth. This time, adding lots of maple syrup.

"Yes dear, why do you ask?" mom tilted her head slightly to look at me. Then she frowned, "Claudia, you're suppose to enjoy the pancakes, why are you stuffing them into your mouth?"

"I love it this way." I tried to give her a sheepish grin but my mouth was too filled up with food that I can hardly lift up my lips without opening it.

Mom rolled her eyes and turned back to do her cooking.

"Mom...I thought the house was pretty spooky..." I said, swallowing the whole lump of chewed pancakes down my throat. Then, it was too dry, so I grabbed the cup of milk mom poured for me and gulped it down.

"Why do you say that, Claudia?" mom asked as she off the gas of the stove and placed the plate of pancakes on the dining table where I was sitting on.

"I saw bats flying on top of the house even though its day time. Our sky here is crystal clear blue skies but on top of the house, only on top of the house, it was covered with gray clouds. Last night, I heard a sound from outside my room and lots of flapping of wings. I thought the sound sounded creepy." I said as I placed down my fork, getting more and more enthusiastic talking about it.

"Oh Claudia, you must be thinking too much. Don't tell me you really believe in haunted houses and stuffs, do you?" mom laughed and cut a small piece of pancake before putting it into her mouth.

"Its true mom. You can get the world's best view from my room!" I boasted and stood up, getting ready to bring mom to my room.

She looked at me as if she didn't believe what I was talking. Then she started speaking, "Okay okay Claudia, mom believes you. You don't have to show me."

"But mom its true-"

"-Yes yes dear. I know its true. I believe you." Mom said in a melody tune, showing off her high pitched voice, which I really hated.

"Why did no one wake me up when there's such a scrumptious breakfast to have?" a low voice asked from behind, apparently it was dad.

"You were sleeping like a pig, Tony." mom scoffed and placed another small piece of pancake into her mouth.

I don't get how she tasted the pancakes when it was so small.

"So I heard about bats and haunted. What were you guys talking about?" Dad asked as he stuffed a whole piece of pancake into his mouth, just like me.

"The house opposite our's..."
