~Gilbert's POV~
My eyes slowly fluttered open, taking time to adjust.Everything thing was dark. All the candles in the building had gone out,we had no light or heat.It wouldn't have been bad if I had been older at the time.I had been too young to know what was going on.Nobody would tell me anything.
Out side loud booms filled the air.It was different though,I knew it wasn't thunder.Thunder was nothing compared to what was happening outside of the village. My eyes widened as I caught a glimpse of the destruction that was happening. My feet seemed to move without my consent, bringing me towards the window.
A shrill scream pierced my eardrums.I knew it came from a young boy around my age,but I couldn't figure out who.Thats when I saw it.The house of my closest friend was burning down in the cover of the darkness. He must be trapped in the blazing building.
I quickly ran from my small home and towards the dancing inferno.I had to act fast.Surprisingly the doorway wasn't in flames so I guess that was a good thing. The flickering light made it hard to find the small blonde without having to cover my eyes every now and then.
Skillfully,I jumped over burning furniture and dashed to the back room.Found him!He was already starting to loose consciousness when I got to him.He was smaller and less heavy than I was so he was easy to carry. My hope almost vanished when I noticed the doorway was now a part of the inferno.
No!I had to get my friend out of here quickly. My gaze burned with determination as I made a speedy dash over objects so we could survive.Flames licked at my heels, trying to drag me and the barely conscious blonde into our certain doom. The acrid air was replaced with cool, clean air.
"G-Gil..."A small timid voice spoke up.
I set the smaller boy down as glanced around looking for his guardian. That stupid Brit was nowhere to be seen,he must have left Matthew alone.I just don't understand why Arthur would leave the little blonde alone in this town.My thoughts would have wandered further, but a harsh cough rang in my ears.
My gaze shot over to Matthew, who had fallen to his knees in a fit of coughs.I was quickly kneeling by his side trying to help him in any way I could.Villagers started to call out in loud voices, some sounding panicked. My heart was beating quickly from the adrenalin? of saving my friend.
"Did you see that?!"
"The demon boy saved him!"
"He is lucky to be alive!"
So many people yelled out different things. My brain was only able to process a few of the comments, one in particular was calling me a 'demon boy'.These people in this village disliked me because I was different. My pale white hair glistened platinum in the light from the flames.
At that moment a different round of coughs came to my ears. This time, however,it wasn't Matthew. My throat burned as I coughed, finally dealing with the aftermath of the acrid smoke.Maybe I had made a bad choice in just dashing in there to save him.
I shook my head, ignoring the soreness of my throat. My actions had saved Matthew's life,so it was worth it.After all he was my only friend here.Everyone else thought I was evil, they've tried to get rid of me in many different ways.None of that mattered to me now.I mean, why should it?
