"Yes, I will be sure of that. Okay." The dark-haired, middle-aged man hung up the phone, then reached across his desk to an intercom speaker and pressed the small red button. "Please send her in," he ordered to the person on the other line. His gruff voice suggested that whoever it was, better follow his instructions, or else.
The intercom buzzed and another voice echoed through the small speaker. "Yes, sir." The voice from the other side was neither scared nor confident as they followed the orders.
The dark-haired man leaned back in his chair and waited patiently for the door across his big office to open. As if on cue, there came a small knock.
He sat up and intertwined his hands on top of the desk. "Come in," he spoke loudly to the person behind the wooden door. It creaked open and a pretty, teenage girl stood in the doorway.
"You requested to see me, sir," she spoke confidently as if she knew exactly what the man was about to say.
"Yes I did," he replied, then added, "And may I say you look beautiful today, young lady."
"That's how you always see me, sir," she replied sweetly, and it was true. Everybody did.
"As does the world," he said. "Which is why I asked to see you. I need you to do a favor for me."
"Yes, sir. A mission?" the girl asked hopefully.
"Yes. A mission," the man repeated.
A small smile appeared on her lips, which she tried to conceal, to no avail. "When do I leave?" she asked. She knew better than to ask details about the mission; when she needed to know, he would tell her.
"I believe you mean when do 'we' leave. One other will be going with you and you both will leave tomorrow," he replied. "Early, so be ready. You're going to be gone a long time."
"Yes sir," she replied. She slightly nodded her head toward the man. "Thank you, sir." She gracefully turned on her heel and left the room, retiring to her own room to pack for the upcoming mission. Thoughts about what she might be asked to do filled her head, and she smiled. It was nice to be needed again, she thought.
