Bad Karma

Normal Day

I slid down the bannister of the stairs. I only live with my mom, so I don't really see why we have such a big house. "Lacie is that you? You better hurry up if you want to get to school on time." Mom called from her room on the 2nd floor.
Well now you know my name; pretty normal name if you ask me.
"Wow there kiddo, where are you going without breakfast." Mark said. Mark's my moms boyfriend; he's cool though, and he's like the father I never had. He doesn't live with us though, but hangs around enough to feel like part of the family.
"I don't have time, but I'll get something at school." I said putting my black Nike's on.
"Okay you have fun." He said ruffling my hair.
I scowled at him, and looked at the time. I had 15 minutes to get to school. I grabbed my long board and skated to school. Luckily we live only a couple blocks away.

Time Skip

I arrived at school to see the normal. People keeping at least a 6 foot distance from me and a lot of "she's here" and "don't say her name." Honestly when are they going to grow up. I reached my locker to see a bunch of people surrounding it. Well not my locker so much as the person next to it. "Excuse me." I said touching the shoulder of the person next to me.
"Yes... OH SHIT!" Screamed the person.
Everyone looked my way and fast walked away with their person of interest safely guarded. I did catch a glimpse, though only long enough to figure out the gender. It was a new student, oh boy I feel bad for him. The girls in this school can get a little crazy around guys. Not me though, I never figured out why they liked them.

Time Skip

Finally it's 6th period. There's supposed to be an assembly in a few minutes. I'll probably just sleep during it. Eventually they called my grade and we left. I had to share the top 2 rows of the bleachers with the teachers. They made this arrangement because no one wants to sit next to me. Some teachers do the same thing so I sit by my homeroom teacher. Only my homeroom teacher and the principal call me by my real name.
"Greetings children!!!" Screamed the principal.
I chuckled, some things always remain the same.
"Today we have a new student!" He yelled.
We do this whenever there is a new student because we have the brand new school right next to us. If your thinking 'well why dont you go there Karma.' It's because thats where the rumor started, then it got to my school.
"Come on out Therea."
From the side of the gym came the guy who was in front of my locker. He had dark green hair, (a/n: it's just dyed that color), he was to far away to see eye color but it wasn't blue. He was wearing black basketball shorts and a band tee shirt for Panic! At the Disco. (A/n: I don't own P!ATD in any way.) He walked into the middle of the gym.
"Hi, I'm Therea Kenway." He said looking like he just wanted to go home too.
From the bleachers came a series of greetings.
"So Mr. Kenway why dont you pick a hand in the bleachers and answer their question."
To the principal this was kinda like a game show with him as the host.
"Sure how 'bout the lovely lady in the green shirt up front."
"Are you the Therea, The one who was on the cover of Teen Magazine 5 times?" She said dreamy eyed. I fake gagged and my teacher elbowed me.
"Why yes I am." He said.
The last half hour of school consisted of this, until the bell finally rang. Everyone rushed to get out. All the students where mindful to still not get close to me though. I groaned, I have to go to work today.

I arrived at work a minute before my shift started. Mr. Harring let me get into my work clothes in the back room. I work in an old pet store and get long hours. There's only 3 employees and we work minimum wage because we don't get a lot of customers.

I got home that night and got more shifts at work because one of the others quit. I walked in to find that the lights where dim and there was slow music on down the hallway in the living room. I took off my shoes and quietly walked down the hall. I saw Mom and Mark finishing a dance. Mark got on one knee, pulled out a ring and said, "Mary, will you make me the happiest man alive and marry me?"
"Yes. Yes I will." My mom answered while crying.
She hugged Mark toppling him to the floor after he put the ring on. They where both crying and laughing at the same time. They still didn't notice me. I gave them the slowest most sarcastic slow clap in the history of mankind.
"Lacie! I thought you where asleep upstairs!" Mom said getting off the floor with Mark and blushing a dark red.
"No I got more hours at work." It was Friday so I didn't have to worry about school.
"Okay, um...." Mark tried to break the awkward silence after I said that sentience.
I yawned, "Don't worry Mark I saw this coming for a long time. Goodnight you two."
"Well since you're so cool with this then I'll tell you something else."
I rased my eyebrows.
"I'm pregnant."
I look at Mark and he's sweating so much that you could fill a pool with it.
"Wow Mark do you need to go back to sex ed?" I scoffed for an extra humorous effect.
Mark and Mom smiled at me.
"Goodnight." I said walking up the stairs into my room.
I slide down the wall next to my door to think. I feel weird, I'm happy Mom's pregnant but at the same time I'm not. I'll get these feelings together in the morning.
