"No Rex over here boy."
"Darling you know that dog has no idea what your saying right?"
"Yes he does. Rex and Finn are really smart pups you know. Remember they are only a couple months old. They still have a lot to learn."
My mom rolled her eyes while continuing to clean the kitchen.
"It's ok babies I love you and will always love you."
Finn looked up at me with his bright blue eyes. Rex continued to chew of his little bone my dad had bought him. Finn kept jumping up and down in my lap begging me to pet him. I stared at him for a while until his cute eyes forced me to pet him.
"Katherine stop petting those gross mutts and come help me clean."
"Mom stop calling me that. I go by Katie. And they aren't mutts." I replied angrily while standing up.
As soon as I started to walk away Rex and Finn started to chase after me. My mom didn't like them in the kitchen so she yelled at them to go. Whimpering they both left and crawled back to where all their toys have been.
"I knew when your father came home with them I should've given them away."
"Why do you hate them so much mom, what did they ever do to you?"
"Go grab the mop, I need a rest I've been working all day. Once you mop in here feed the dogs and take them on a walk."
"Mom my question."
"I don't hate them. They are just going to be a rough adjustment. That's all."
"Well honey you better get used to it" my dad had sneaked inside and suprised my mom.
"Your home" I yelled frighting the pups.
"I assume those little stinkers have had a lot of fun today huh?"
"Apart from mom yelling at them sure."
"Oh she's just getting used to them that's all."
I smiled and let out a little laugh. I hugged my dad tight then walked back to petting the puppies.
"Sweetie your chores." My mom was a stickler.
"Oh honey let Katie play with the puppies."
My dad always was the one to let me have fun. My mom on the other hand, now that's a different story.
"Fine but she still needs to care for the pups. They need to be walked weekly."
"Mom I know."
She gave me a stern look. I knew I wasn't supposed to be sassy but I know how to care for a dog. She acts like I don't. Our dog who has now... past, I took care of.
