~Okay so I just started a new job and I am super excited about it, except it leaves me like no time to write except for times when I am beyond exhausted. So I apologize if some things don't make sense. Please leave comments where you are confused about something so that I can fix it! I still want to update and write this story because I really love the premise behind it. I'll try and get a piece out every week on Fridays because those are my days off! It would mean a lot to me if you liked and shared this story if you're enjoying it!~
~Update! Okay, so I changed Adelaide's name from Rosaline to Adelaide, just because I was scrolling through the historical fiction section and I saw a lot of princesses named Rosaline or Rosa or a variation of that and I was hoping to be a bit more original by changing that! Let me know if you like the new name or not!~
Adelaide's day passed quickly, and although she had not caught more than a glimpse at her newfound husband, the castle was majestic to explore. Her personal favorite room was the library. She enjoyed the smell of it above all else. When she was a child, she was never taught to read. That was her brother's responsibility. Orham needed an heir to the throne that was literate, herself and her two sisters were not among the picking for an heir.
Of course, her brother was merely the nephew of the King of Orham, however, her uncle had never conceived a son. Adelaide's brother was the closest thing that the King had to an heir, and so he was trained and prepared for the throne from childhood. Her brother was immensely skilled in battle. Adelaide had never seen him lose a sword fight. However, she wasn't very close to him.
Her adventures around the castle were short lived alone. She wandered out the side of the castle and into the gardens, full of flowers, vines, and hedges. It acted as if it was a maze. Her shoes grazed the stepping stones that were littered about, and her attention was caught by a lady sitting beside a fountain. She wore a glazed light pink dress, littered with embellishments and jewels.
Adelaide was hesitant to continue her exploration, seeing as other people were out and about. She wasn't sure about meeting the castle staff and guests while she was here. At least, not until after the marriage ceremony was over. Although there was a signature of the contract, in the eyes of the kingdom and all others in the castle, Adelaide and Aaron were not betrothed.
Her best instincts were weaker than normal, what with the excitement of all that happened today, and she opted to continue her walk. Her fingertips grazed the petals of flowers as she strolled past them. She enjoyed the calming colors of the blues and pinks. They were far more pleasing to the eye than the harsh orange and yellow lilies that seemed to sprout on every corner of the garden in front of the castle.
The stepping stone path took her closer to the lady in pink, and she wondered whether to turn off onto another path or to continue and spark up a conversation. Her feet opted for the latter. She clasped her hands together and cleared her throat to warn the woman of her approaching. As Adelaide got closer to the fountain, she noticed the bushes surrounding it sprouted bright red raspberries. She smiled lightly, glad to have a small snack, as she hadn't eaten anything since the morning.
"Hello." Adelaide mused, fully receiving the woman's attention. The woman in pink was darker skinned, with strands of glossy black hair falling onto her shoulders and back from her bun. It seemed like she didn't see Adelaide approach, despite the noises of her shoes on the stone. Nonetheless, she offered a small but sincere smile to the newcomer.
"It is a beautiful day in the gardens, is it not?" Adelaide continued, taking a seat beside the fountain within reach of the berries.
"Why yes, the weather hasn't been this favorable in weeks madam." The lady in pink replied, tearing her focus away from the project that she was slowly knitting and placing the fabric on her lap to engage with Adelaide. "My name is Isabel, and you?"
