chapter 1

Paris-

Looking back to last week, I was glad that I had left that horrid place. When my mother died, my whole life changed, my goofy yet loving father became a workaholic and an alchoholic. My shy yet bubbly sister Penny became a stoner who had nothing but hate towards me. During these three hard years that I endured, I began to question my life.

Why did my mother leave me like this? Why do I have to live? Why me?

Instead of creating a big dramatic scene, I ran away from my problems. Ran far away. The idea of wandering had captured my soul like a predator to its prey. I had a burning passion of love for cities I've never been to, and was fascinated by people I've never met. No one cared, not yet anyway. I haven't seen my name on the back of any milk cartons yet; and for me thats a good sign.

This run down motel has sadly been what I had called home, for now. Maura, the motel manager was a sweet lady, she has a family of two boys and a loving husband. I envied her picture perfect family. My heart ached for the people I had left behind in such a vulnerable state, but it had also yearned for adventure.

Sighing I walked out of the motel room and walked to the front office to pay my weekly rent, the cold air had hit my face causing my ears to burn. Holding my black trench coat tighter around my body I ran to the office. Maura looked up and smiled warmly.

"How ya doin' doll?" she asked.

"I've been well, how about you Maura?"

"Oh just peachy darlin', Christmas is just around the corner, the grocer's is more packed than ever. And my boys don't eat lightly." she chuckles to herself.

"Well, I hope it goes wonderfully." I smiled.

"What are you doing for Christmas ?" she asked.

"I'm probably going to start packing, and head out for another city."

"Nonsense! Come have dinner with my family! I insist, you'll finally get to meet my boys!" she offered.

"Oh no, Maura I musn't. I won't have any gifts or food to bring."

"How about you help me wash the dishes and we'll call it a deal?" she asked.

"Are you sure Maura? I really wouldn't want to cause any troub-"

"Oh darlin', I have two grown boys. It'll be fine, and while you're at it bring you're dirty laundry and we'll wash those right up for ya."

"O-Okay, see you then Maura." I waved goodye making sure to leave the 50 pounds I owed her on the front desk.

I finally might've found a family. A perfect one at that.
