When we lost the battle, we lost the war.
Although, most of us didn't even know there was a war.
We didn't know what was waiting for us; what stood patient in the underground, waiting to be set free. All we thought we knew was that we were fine, and we kept our blinders on as we continued our days like nothing was wrong.
"We are selfish creatures, you know," the voice of my older brother Eli rang in my head. "We're built to fight, and that's all we'll ever do to each other."
"Yeah, yeah. I know," I would groan, but he was right. As much as I hated to say, he knew what he was talking about.
But it didn't matter. No matter how many warnings anyone in this would could muster or hear, we still stayed on the same path with the same ending: the collapse of humanity.
And it all started the day Eli disappeared.
