The area of the birds was full of people, some of them were on a guided tour and some others were wandering around on their own, families, couples, friends and us. Chris and I were walking side by side behind a large group of Japanese tourists, Chris kept glancing back every now and then and it caught my attention.
"What's the matter?" I asked.
"That woman, the one with black leggings and a denim jacket," he explained.
I discreetly looked behind us and spotted her, she was staring at us, a small smile on her face.
"She's been looking our way ever since we made it to the sanctuary, she was behind us when we were looking at the koalas, too," he informed me. I honestly had not paid attention to her. It was, in fact, the first time I noticed her.
"Maybe she's a fan, that's all," I remarked.
"I don't think so, our fans are not that creepy, they say hello and are usually really sweet."
"We have had some weirdos who claimed to be our fans following us around before," I reminded him.
"But she's not a fan!" he insisted as we continued walking and stopped in front of the place of the Emus. "Aww, look! They're magnificent!" Chris exclaimed open mouthed, "Such a badass face."
"Yeah, there's a clear "Don't mess with me attitude" in there," I told him.
"I don't even think she recognised us," he said with a pensive attitude.
"Again with that girl?" I laughed.
"I have bad vibes about her, as if she wants us to notice her or something."
"Maybe she fancies you."
"I don't think so! I'm dressed like a bum, I haven't shaved in two days and I smell," he said looking back at the enormous bird that was approaching our side. "Hey gorgeous," he cooed to the Emu a few metres away from us while he leaned on the outer barrier.
"So what? I fancy you anyways!" I told him with a lopsided smile and playfully pushed him aside with my shoulder so I could also lean on the wooden surface.
"Hey!" he laughed.
I could not believe he would say that, silly Chris. He knew there were thousands of people around the world who would like nothing more than a night with him.
Well, too bad for them! I thought with a smug attitude and focused on the Emus in front of us.
Next thing I knew the after mentioned girl was perched on the barrier three feet away from me, I glanced at her and she smiled, I awkwardly smiled back before turning to the animals once more. Was she a fan? Why didn't she say anything if she was? It was a bit weird; I had to go with Chris in this one. Chris was busy snapping pictures of the birds with his phone and had not seen her. From the corner of my eye I saw the girl had moved a little bit closer to me. I turned my head and she was looking at me, then she confidently smiled and looked ahead at the animals.
Umm...was this what I thought it was? I nudged Chris and pointed to my left with my eyes, so as she wouldn't notice. He couldn't hide his displeasure when he spotted her, it was written all over his face, and his frown was evidence of that.
Three other girls, who I guessed were her friends, approached our stalker "Where were you?" they inquired between loud laughs and conversation about the cuteness of the koalas and they all went away together. They must have all been around 25, 26 years old give or take.
"Did she say anything?" Chris asked watching them leave.
"No, just smiled at me."
She turned around and looked in our direction, before smiling again and striding away with confidence with her friends.
